I had an Antron and a Sirio Tornado back 20+ years they both worked ok that's all I can say really. I was not as analytical back then so never really understood the differences. I was too bamboozled by the 9.9dBi gain claim like most. I don't recall ever getting more DX on the Antron. Bottom line a nicely set up 5/8 wave with decent radials will do as well as most (I would without doubt choose the 5/8 if the radials were a non issue for a base set up) so if it is going nice and cheap it will do the job nicely. |

Any good 5/8 antenna should out perform a 1/2 wave antenna, but not by as much as you may think, the ST 27 does have good reviews and comes pre-SWR'd, Nevada radio have them on sale at coppers under £60. |

Thanks for the replys guys have looked at the reviews on YouTube (thanks for the link Martin) OK not much between them but worth giving a go he does not want much for it so going for it my only concern is weather it will cope with the high winds as well as my antron has being lighter than the antron it should go on the same mast as my moxon thank all the replys

You shouldn't have much problems wind wise, I had a 3/4 wave, 27'ish foot high Sigma 4 up for quite a few years and never suffered any problems other than it would 'Howl' in high winds.

There is one thing... I remember my mum and dad not liking the Sirio cause it made a whistley or whippy noise when it was windy (might have been the radials?). I think they were glad once it all fell down into the neighbours garden ( 2 neighbours gardens I think) and I went for the Antron. The Sirio never bent just the slot in steel poles that bent and came down. Was not even that high if I recall about 4 meters. I don't think there is a CBer in history that has not pushed there luck with a base antenna and had a mishap.
