Put it this way Glen the name Porta Pack give you a clue , same as Porta Loo, you dont exspect much if the word Porta is in front of the next word LOL , Na there OK for what there meant for a portable radio but just dont exspect miracles from one , I know a lot use them for CTX stuff up in the hills using a different antenna instead of the telescopic thing which is a advantage for useing one cos you would be high up away from built up areas but as one for a home base would be better to buy a proper radio really mate |

Like I said Glen there is a adapter to put a better exsternal antenna on it like what the CTX lot do cos the telescopic one would get you heard about one up from shouting at ya mate across the road , maybe if you was out on the bike and go up to high ground you could take a T2LT antenna with you as there easy to roll up in a rucksack and would work alot better |

If or when you get one Glen Dave or I should be able to copy you on UKFM 27/81 if you get on a high spot or if you can put up a decent antenna at home

The downside to the Midland, is that if you use 8 standard AA batteries in it's internal battery holder, you will only get about 2.5w output, and the batteries won't last very long really if your transmitting a lot. They are a decent enough little radio, the receive is good, and the transmit audio isn't too bad, plus the speaker-mic is handy when outdoors and the wind is blowing you can hold it to your ear to hear a bit clearer. Personally, I'd say use a small 7a/h mobility scooter battery or something, and use any small radio, many are even smaller than the midland now, and also have the extra EU/CEPT band as well as the UKFM, you will get full output and for longer. |

I would have thought a midland 42 would have suited you better, you cab get a bnc to UHF adaptor could be used to connect a better antenna if your not in a car while you are out. C |

Seriously glen if your gona spend that on a hand held, why not spend it on a multi mode. You can get an anytone, alinco, mass and probably some ive 4got for the same price.Im feeling benevolent because i dont want you to make the 40 channel mistake,so its now ive a radio ere you can ave if you want it.A harrier cbx simply because it doesn't get used, no strings its yours if you want it m8...................... |
