Charlie Tango DX is a group dedicated to Hobby Radio Users in all forms, whether CB, Amateur, PMR446, Scanning and Short Wave Listening.
We are a very active and friendly group that welcomes anyone from anywhere in the world who has an interest in Radio, regardless of their level of experience, their equipment, their location, or their radio preference. We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

Evenin' all. Although not religiously on the hills every weekend. I do like to have a radio in the car ready for use at all times. I cringe at the word "rig"; I don't like my radio setup in the car to be "rigged up". Maybe I'm a bit girly. :$

Has anyone done an install in a 2003 (ish) Passat or similar? Worst case, I'll sacrifice the little hidey-hole pocket beneath the stereo but I'd ideally like to get shot of the ashtray, relocate the cigarette lighter elsewhere? Any ideas or pics anyone?

The Mondeo is dead. Long die the Mondeo. :hanged:

No idea about the Passat, could've told you loads about the Mondeo....

A good install should take at least a couple of days, most of the time being spent on the antenna installation and doing the bonding. Look at this page for information on how to do bonding. It makes the world of difference to a mobile installation.

Remember to put the negative wire to where the main earth from the battery connects to the body, not directly to the battery. There's several reasons why but importantly on modern cars with smart charging systems wiring directly to the battery bypasses the sensors and can screw up the charging system.

if the Passat has a double din radio you might consider an install like I did in my Kia,
