Ok today I got the wire antenna up and Im well pleased. Its not very high, infact I will do a small video to show you later. I set it around the garden and the length came to 108foot each leg, not planned by the way, the shape is a square with one side missing, think you know what I mean lol.

The SWR on all bands is out by a mile but the manual antenna tuner does its job no problem. Ive just tried it out here.

I got my mate to to go on a 11 metre band on his vertical my antenna is a horizontal dipole so didnt think it would be good but it was, I was hitting him with a 6 on 10 watts he is about 7 miles away and Im in a bit of a blind spot, I only ever hit him with that on my antron when it was up.

Next I tried 20 metres and straight away I got in with LA1CI Norway, well impressed. I cant wait for a bit skip on 11 metres. Ill continue to try this out next week and hope for better conditions but If I can get away with a vertical for 11 metres I will be very happy.

Nice one Daz,
I am amazed at how well my wire does.
It's in a really crappy position, with the inverted V not even coming down perpendicular/straight compared to the mast, it's bent around the end of my garden, and the V angle is wayyy too steep probably about 30 degrees at the top lol, it shouldn't work really, but it certainly does !

They don't seem to appreciate the utter beauty that is the wire antenna collection, nor the necessary time required to perfect them. Sheesh

Hahaha your right their mate lol.

Think I should add ladder line to this dipole although it works well on the coax, I have an air wound coil of coax at the base of the antenna about 7 winds. The 80/40 metre bands seem really noisy though hope thats the same for everyone and not just interference.

I couldnt sit their and wait until tomorrow so just had another go hehehe, straight into west coast of Spain not far from Portugal talking to EA1IJF well chuffed been a long time since I had a homebase :D ned some 11 metre action

That was the idea Richard as the wife is not into antennas lol.

This thing works really well, I thought about making a ladder line for it but its working great with the coax not sure if I would benefit from a ladder line although many say its the best way with these type antennas. If it works dont fix it lol Ive been their before and knacked a good antenna.

What I wish I had done is used the wire along the top of the wooden fence as the drive first to see how it works and have the counterpoise run along the bottom of the fence. If they do work well along the top of a wooden fence though it would have been great to show those members that are not allowed to have antennas up in the air what they could achieve.
