In a couple of weeks I'm looking to buy a new Rig for am/ ssb.

Just been on radiozing and they have the grant 2. With 3 options
Factory standard
Tested and aligned
Expanded.

I posted a comment on afacebook post from radio zing asking the difference

I got this responce
Factory standard means multi norm cb radio - or not expanded - tested and aligned means set up correctly - expanded means radio is in expanded mode

Can any one explain (in simple terms lol) what expanded mode is and do I need it?

Instead of being restricted to 40 channels on EU and 40 UK channels you can operate on all frequencies from 25-30MHz.

Do you need it? Unless you're a licensed amateur then you don't want to be on 28-29.6MHz anyway and anything outside of the amateur allocation and the two sets of 40 channels is illegal. There's some freebanding going on between Ch40 of EU and Ch1 of UK. Not much going on from 25MHz to EU Ch1.

Unless you're interested in working on 27.555, and in my opinion with legal SSB there's less reason to, then there's no point.
