Hi Chris, if I were you, bearing in mind you want to take the foundation later, I'd go for something like the Baofeng UVr5, or Wouxun hand-helds, not entirely legal for PMR446, but they'll work there, and also allow you to use 2m and 70cm when you get your M6.

I agree, for what tnhey cost you cannot go wrong with a Baofeng (or Pofung) as they are now called. For £25 or so from ebay they are a steal. |

I have just ordered one of these. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331235190438?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Me an a friend experimented with a shorter one (about 15cm length) and had some suprisingly good results with it. They are also practically invisible on a car roof. |

i agree with the uv5r or the yellow one they do.. cant remember the yellow ones name but any thing uv is great. i love mine but on its own its not that great on its own, it may be under £30 for the handset but i spent another 15 on the bigger battery, 5 on the bigger antenna and 8 on the speaker mic. the audio is not all ways great on any built in mic and dust can get in the hole, the antenna it comes with is just enough for local if the other person is home base but the bigger one is fantastic and the standard battery lasted me just a few hours but the bigger one will last me well over a weekend of radio ![]() even with spending on the extra items it was still under half the price of other handsets. so easy to program by pc. such a handy radio to carry, i say dont worry about pmr, just get your ticket and use your local repeaters. its just a great all round radio for walking, the car or at home in the shack
