I was listening in on a couple of operators on 2m and they were talking about the fact 23cm could be about to be taken away by Ofcom. To honest I only use it when my radio club our all on it during the contest which takes place monthly on a Tuesday. Apart from that, I rarely use it.
Would it be a great loss it Ofcom did take it away and not give us something back. :thumb:

70 cms, there has been talk about losing it almost as long as I've been licensed.
There was Syledis which was a system for placing drilling rigs in the North Sea before GPS, used to hear it anytime 70 was getting lifty. It was a wide band chattering sound. Then the MOD set up a series of repeaters called MOULD (I think) which started a panic about the probable loss of the band.
There has always been pressure on that band from PMR (not 446) as there is a heavy demand for two way radio at UHF.
Would be a pity as I like the band.
In the early eighties, around Nottingham there was more simplex activity on 70 than 2 using converted PYE equiptment usually pocketfone 2 (pf70)
