Have just taken delivery of a new Baofeng UV-5RC and NA-771 antenna, with a view to doing my foundation licence, I have also downloaded chirp and can get it to talk to my unit and have added the usual PMR frequencies along with a couple of other's (Including local 2m net, that hopefully will be able to hear). I was wondering if there is anywhere you can find a list of frequencies ? |

Have done that allready (but forgot to add the frequencies , but adding them now ) but none exactly close I am about 17 miles from the crawley one and 23 miles from the worthing and brighton ones (as a crow flies) , I didn't know if there are other frequencies that are used. Hopefully I might hear the Horsham 2m net tonight at 9:30 , about 10 miles as a crow flies.

Whilst I was taking my M6 and listening in I did the same as you and bought a UV5R. I also purchased a SMA - BNC converter and placed a mobile whip in the loft. I could receive a repeater about 15 to 20 miles away. In addition my local nets. I live near the coast so down coast I can receive at least 20 miles away and inland - 10 miles to 15 depending on location and power used... possibly further. I have made some good local contacts on the Baofeng since (down coast 12 miles and 5 or so inland). Good radio for the money. Took it on a SOTA expedition to the Lake District using a 1/2 wave dipole. Favourite contact was Isle of Man on 4 watts. Regularly working across the lakes, Yorkshire, Scotland, Liverpool area, The Wirral and Wales. Some good summit to summit contacts into Wales. Good luck with the test. |
