Hi, my name is Chris and I live in Lincolnshire. I started with CB in Birmingham, during the 1980s, and have a fair understanding of the workings of radios & antennas etc. I'm now also a licenced amateur 2E0*** (intermediate licence). It's great news that SSB/AM can now legally be used on CB in the UK. This has rekindled my interest in CB radio. Hence the reason for requesting a CT callsign. Best 73s, Chris. |

Hi Nik, Thanks for welcoming me and issuing my callsign so quickly. I live near the village of Nettleham, not far from Lincoln. 11 metre activity seems very quiet around here. When I lived in Birmingham in the 1980s, it was difficult to make contact with someone living only a couple of miles away, due to so many people using the UK 40 FM channels. How things have changed! Now that SSB and AM can legally be used on the CEPT (MID) band, I was expecting the 11 metre band to be more busy, but nothing seems to have happened. There were a few enthusiasts heard, just after midnight on the 27th June (when SSB/AM was legalised for use on UK CEPT channels), but nothing heard since. Today, I heard a few Italians at the back of the box, but nobody local. I've been monitoring the SSB calling channel 27 (27.275MHz USB) and AM calling channel 14 (27.125MHz) Cheers, Chris. |

Hi Andy, Thanks for your welcome message. Congratulations on passing your M6. I guess that CB will always be in my heart too, as that's how I got into radio, way back when. Maybe we will have that QSO sometime. 73s, Chris. |

Hi Craig, Thanks very much for your welcome message. Yes, it makes sense to call out, as you suggested, otherwise everyone is waiting for someone else to call, and you're left thinking there is nobody out there 73s, Chris. Edited by brumlad36, Monday, 30. June 2014, 08:46.

Hi Jeff, Many thanks for your welcome message. People seem to be very friendly on this forum. I've never managed to speak to Canada, although I have made contact with the USA on amateur 10 metre band. The MUF is still likely to be pretty high, come this Autumn/Winter, so maybe USA and Canadian contacts will be possible on 11 metres then. 73s, Chris. |

Hi Jeff, As a licenced amateur, I need to keep to the legal frequency plan for the UK. 27.555MHz is not legal for use in the UK. However 27.385MHz is part of the CEPT (MID) band, which is legal for use in the UK. I will be listening out on 27.385MHz LSB (ch38 MID), later this year, in case the F2 layer MUF gets high enough. From September to April, I have also had fun listening to the USA calling channel (6) on 27.025MHz AM, sometimes referred to in this country as the "Superbowl" channel. 73s, Chris. |

Ciao Stefano, Grazie un milione for welcoming me to this group. Maybe we will QSO sometime soon. I have heard some Italian stations on 11 metres today. My antenna is horizontal (for 40, 20, 12, 11 & 10 metres), so I hear more "skip" stations than local ones on 11 metres CB band. Di tutto il meglio, Chris (with the help of Google translate / Con l'aiuto di Google Translate). |
