Hello everyone, My wife and I were part of the cb scene before it was legal and we had 40 ch American sets. Exciting stuff in those days trying to avoid the Home Office (or so we thought). Then we got a Cobra 148gtl dx, oh boy what a rig. I could talk to truckers in the Blue Ridge Mountains using nothing more than a piece of wet string for an aerial (lol). My wife has been gone 5 years now and I'm looking to get back into cb. Am I right in thinking that my old Cobra (if I still had it) would be legal come July? I left cb when the government made it legal and, in my view, rendered it totally useless with it's adoption of FM. Can anyone tell me how far we are into the ship cycle? ( I think it's 11 year cycle). I would be pleased to receive a CT call sign even though I'm yet to purchase my new gear. Thank you in advance for your kind advice Graham |

Hi Graham, Welcome to CT DX group. Thank you for the great intro ! Your 148gtl dx unfortunately would not meet the new regulations, but many users do still own and operate older sets with no problems. Unless you are causing problems (interference or antenna / planning permission issues), then it is unlikely you will have any 'visit' from Ofcom. There are quite a few new radios which you will be able to use, have a dig through our 'standard cb' section for some advice. The skip cycle has just peaked, so you should have another 2 or 3 decent years yet before it becomes a bit rare. I can issue you a call-sign for 11m use, : 26CT1352 good luck, Enjoy the forum, Nik |
