£50 does not get you much these days so I was very pleased when I got my hand on this HT. Based on the popular UV-5R but in a new better looking package. Within the price also came a ear piece/mic, spk/mic, base charger and the programming lead plus free postage from a UK supplier.

The GT-3 is a duel band Amateur band HT with extended RX which may be useful to many. It should also be able to RX the 4Mtr band (65-108Mhz commercial radio RX) but I've yet to find the time to try this, there maybe an issue with the frequency steps. This aside, the overall feel of the radio is of a very well built and tough unit.

To all accounts the O/E antenna is not the best and most users replace theres. For what I use the radio for the antenna is fine (for now).

Battery life is good to the point of being silly. I've set mine to the 'low TX power' level, 1 watt, which helps this but even so I do use the scan (painfully slow) and duel watch function.

Alpha-numeric tagging is possible, if you use the software, and something I find a god send. The 'new' display comes into play once outside in direct sunlight and is clear and full of information. The 'S' meter is not good, being on or off. ANY signal reads full scale! I'm also not keen on the chrome finish to the top of the volume control.

Once to get the hang of the operating system to navigate the radio it's a joy.

Lots of information on the Web covering this radio so the place to start is a quick 'Google'. Thanks for looking.

Can it be tuned in to the PMR channels? I ask as I own a Yeasu FT-60 which due to the steps cannot accurately be tuned in to the PMR frequencies.

Thats a good question! If was off Ebay and a UK seller in Southampton I think. Sorry I can't give you better info, was concentrating on the radio!

If you do decide to get one I think you will be pleased with it.
