I am considering purchasing a Baofeng via Barsoom @ Amazon, are they a reliable company? Just a shame that the two big Ham Radio suppliers don't stock good PMR kit. |

They probably don't stock "good pmr kit" because if memory serves me correctly, the legal power limit is 0.5w on pmr. If you choose to use 4 or 5 watts, then that's up to you. There is a paragraph in Radcom this month about the use of high power on PMR, Ofcom are aware and there are ongoing court cases. They both sell Wuoxun hand helds that will venture on to pmr. There are plenty places on the bay and amazon that sell the cheaper Baofengs etc. Never had any dealings with Barsoom. Fm |

Just looked in PW, and Moonraker sell it, but they have said it transmits at up to 5w on 2m, as they don't mention the power on 446, it would to me suggest the version they sell would set to the legal limit, but when up high and connected to a good quality Yagi, one should be able to put out a good signal. |

As a newcomer to PMR, the Ofcom involvement is interesting. Shame they can't sort out the QRM on my local 2m repeater with such vigor! |

Could it be that PMR446 is used by many businesses, but 2m is used by hobbyists? Business users having a higher priority. I'm no legalistic band police, and have an open-minded attitude of "if it harms none, why worry", but if 446 users use 20 watts (as a few have been know to do) into a high gain collinear on a tall mast it does kind of stick out a bit and defeats the object of what 446 is meant to be.Sorry going off topic. Taffers, have you tried Handy Radio . Haven't bought anything off him myself but he does come online and discusses radio stuff. Edited by Radio Pixie, Tuesday, 22. April 2014, 11:03.
