How about some experiments testing the achievable range of a low power VHF CB radio system? I propose that licensed Amateur radio operators do some tests on 2 meters and post the results here. I think it will give a good indication as to what we could expect from a legal VHF CB system. Categories: Handheld > Handheld 1 watt Handheld > Handheld 5 watts Handheld > Home Base 1 watt Handheld > Home Base 5 watt5 Handheld > Mobile 1 watt Handheld > Mobile 5 watts Mobile > Home Base 1 watt Mobile > Home Base 5 watts When testing home base situations it would be good to try using a small vertical antenna along the lines of a Watson 30 (http://wsplc.com/antennas-tuners/vhf-uhf-antennas/w-30-watson-2m-70cm-base-station-vertical.html) Non licensed stations could listen and post reception reposts on here also. Although I dont personally agree with this, it has been suggested that some temporary FREEBAND activity could take place also. If you wish to take that risk please ensure that you use a clear frequency. This site may be able to help to find a non-allocated frequency to try out http://qrg.globaltuners.com/?q=153&s=1 - Just type in the frequency to see what is allocated around the world (I have used 153Mhz as an example in the link) Comments???? |

To show what can be achieved with low power and modest equipment! Some real-world information will prove useful I'm sure. (I already know what can be achieved as I have been using 2m/70cm for many years, but I'm sure others will be interested in the results) Also I'm already getting wrong for this so please NOTE: Please do not FREEBAND on VHF, I only mentioned it because I've had emails suggesting that non-licensed stations could do this. I DO NOT recommend this type of activity!
