I have an A99 and the IMAX2K.

Both have been where the GM is now with same run coax, same radio etc.............

The GM is defo the best for me and I suppose thats all that counts.

I have used radios professionally for the last 18 yrs and since the transition to the new whips (fibreglass) we all have noticed a degredation in comms. I made a VHF wire AE in Afghanistan and we got comms in as opposed to the fibreglass whips which were crap.

Its purely on my OWN experience that I call this. The GM works for me as I UNDERSTAND that the A99 or IMAX2K works for others.

I suppose my aim of the video/experiment was to save 100+ € on an AE which I have done and maybe plant a seed in others to take this experiment up.

Looking at the both video's to me it seems the I-max pulls in more static at your location but i think it all depends on where the antenna is located at your qth I used to run an antron a99 for many years with no noise lovely antenna many on here would would slag it off! and refer to it as a large dummy load! funny because for a dummy load it doesn't work that well being that it would transmit a a signal imho tongue in cheek! ;) but getting back to the Imax 2000 I have one up here and i'm in the middle of a large city i don't get any static here at this qth been reading all the fab reports of the gain master so i bought one and to be honest my I-max pulls in a stronger signal by about 2 s points both antennas are at 50 feet next to each other both are good but my i-max 2000 beats my gainmaster thats my pounds worth! you pay your money you take your chance :D
Have you considered swapping their locations?

The DB
Db yes I swapped them around just to test and see if things would change? they didn't I still had the same signals on both antennas! I honestly think its all down to location and whats around you there are many variables but I find they both work fine!

Agree! what works for you is all that matters I'm into antenna or aerial building this way some years ago I wanted a Radio Works Carolina Windom 80 Special but could not afford one so I built my own with bits and pieces which worked fine 1st station worked on 80 m was a ZL in new zealand I was running just 20 watts at the time I also enjoyed building delta loops my specialty for 11 meters were stealth ones cheers Martin

Holy thread resurrection....

Someone said somewhere that they suspect the GM to be a cloud warmer and that the IMAX will outperform it. I was too slow to disagree.....though thankfully I never got the chance to.

Here are MY findings.

Before it all kicks off I KNOW its on RX only etc........

But over a year later and swaps between A99, Silver rods etc........you get the picture.......guess which one is still up in the air.

The HBGM. It works for me. Never once have I had to take it down for a makeover so to speak.

Quality.
