We are a very active and friendly group that welcomes anyone from anywhere in the world who has an interest in Radio, regardless of their level of experience, their equipment, their location, or their radio preference. We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

hi was debating about getting a homebase antenna for the roof in summer for hopefully some good chats in local area but hear nothing but truckers through the day and a few stations from blackpool and Liverpool at the weekends, and that's sat in my car on a high hill in halton. maybe just have to stick to dxing for now. suppose some areas are better then others but mine nothing maybe in time it will have a revival.

Get yourself up to Middleton sands and you'll be amazed at the dx you'll work from the beach at low tide. There's a guy in Blackpool works all sorts from pedestrian mobile on the prom there. It's to do with the proximity of the salt water. Used to live in Middleton many moons ago.

We're the same here Mike, hardly anything on FM at home down in the valley, and a different world once up on the hills, but CB does seem to on the up again.
I'm sure you'd work some of those on the hills from home like Mick and myself when I'm out, at least it gives you the option.

It's the same down South. I am just South of Haywards Heath in Sussex and so very quiet at my home location. I rarely hear anything between 25 and 28 MHz. May be different up on the downs but compared to the 80s and 90s when I had a homebase setup it is so dead.

I think this is the case across much of the country, I live just 4 miles across open countryside from the main A2 approach to Dover docks, and yet can't even hear any truckers. Deathly silence reigns across the UK 40. Up to a few years ago could hear constant chatter on 19 from the truckers and on another channel there would be farm workers in their tractors. My last local guy I used to copy seems to have disapeared as have the couple of guys that used to be good for a chat across the bay in Ramsgate. I know there is some activity in north Kent and Essex but unfortunately out of my range. I hope it's fact that a comeback is pending, but it'll never reach the popularity that it enjoyed during the first few years after legalisation. I remember there were only two of us on locally from day 1 till the first Xmas, then all hell broke loose as every school kid and his brother had a CB in his Xmas stocking. Wasn't long before I scuttled back to my old President Grant..............Mick

Well I must say your in a great location .I have been up cumbria quite a few times house sittng with my lass to just outside appleby off the a66 and just as you have written. Silence on uk fm working from the mobile landrover we did treck up harstone pass and the dx was unreal only on 40w like running 1kw back at home lol imo I would still have a home base set up and even just to work local sort of work I would run some power but I'm in no doubt you could work the world with 100w on the propagation 73s Mark 554

I'm in Cumbria! I'm mostly on Amateur bands, but I still tune in on Sundays for the net from high ground. In a tent in the rain today and not a sausage from the UK, yet 30 and 2 div were booming in!
I even started today's net in Haverigg near the rescue station. Surprised you never heard me...

Maybe next time.
