You have all heard of the album series "Now that's what I call music!" and you read the list of tracks and go "UH?"
Here's your chance to tell us all what "Floats your boat"

Here's my first shot, kind of sums me up, lol

This is for anyone who remembers the very early days of hip-hop, 79-84.
It's a track by comedy rapper MC Pitman, but if you know anything about the early days of hip-hop, the references will all make sense.
I think it's genius, because it tells the story of the early park jams in the Bronx (new York) but from the perspective of an old Yorkshire miner, very funny and very clever too !
Oh, and it isn't rap, it's a spoken story, but sounds like something from radio 4 :D

If your a real fan of acoustic guitar, and in particular earlier folk style, then you will definitely appreciate these four gentlemen ;)
Bert Jansch is a favourite of mine, as he was one of the founder members of Pentangle, but it's nice to see Ralf McTell playing too. Jan Akkerman is just unreal, and Stefan Grossman plays beautifully too.

New track I made, for a remix competition.
It's UK HipHop so not everyones cuppa, but its free to download for anyone who likes it :)

https://soundcloud.com/nik-gnashers-1/smellington-piff-site-nik-gnashers-2015-jazzy-remix

Also, something I found on youtube, which I really enjoyed.
The music is a track called 'time is the enemy' by 'Quantic', and is a slow jazzy, moody break.
The video I think really fits the music, and was apparently filmed in San Francisco, a year before a huge earthquake destroyed the city in 1906.

The same street looks like this now : https://www.google.com.au/maps/@37.792293,-122.397624,3a,75y,41.45h,88.56t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1scitKUmOCK7bwkzri_2l93A!2e0

and just after the earthquake :

A lot of really good music in this thread. Got a very wide range of music here from Metal to Ska. Absolutely detest rap of any description. The amount of good tunes out there absolutely ruined by some clown rapping.

Anyway, here's just a small selection of what I listen to.

This is probably the best mix ever of n trances' Set you free. Skip to 2:33 and see if you recognise the tune it's mixed with.

Here's a taste of some of the 80's stuff i like.
Echo and the Bunnymen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8H0xtvxoq0 The Cutter
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZF8tVtf-h4 Nothing lasts forever

A wee bit of metal etc obviously I can't list the whole AC/DC, iron Maiden, judas Priest, Motorhead, Ian Gillan, rock goddess, yes, rush, Saxon, etc etc back catalogue here.

Rammstein - Du Hast
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzGKsX

Barclay James Harvest - In Memory of the Martyrs

Some House now, love this tune

Trotters independent Traders It's Time For House
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQpFjmuRt2A

Told you I had a wide taste in music, time for Ska. This is a classic best played with a load of base

Maytals, Prince Buster etc Jamaica Ska or Dog War

Another classic

Can't forget some good old Folk Music. I was at this gig at the Barrowlands and I try to get to this one every year. There is some serious drinking going on here by the way and not a hint of trouble. Both start off slow and build up. And yes you do see me briefly and no i'm not telling you when lol.

:D :D :D

That is a bit of a sweeping statement, but your entitled to your opinion ;)
I don't like most 'Rap' as you call it, especially American stuff because I can't relate to it, maybe if I was born in the Bronx I might lol. But some of the UK HipHop being released now is very intelligent, uses some beautiful music, and the wordplay is incredible.

I could never say I don't like 'anything' from one particular genre of music, because there is always something that I find interesting. I'm not a fan of thrash metal or anything too heavy, but there are a few I have found that I really like (Rammstein for example). I like the trotters tune you linked, and had all of their releases on vinyl :thumb: before I gave up DJ-ing and sold all my tunes & equipment.
Ska, Punk, Disco, great stuff !

Just been learning to play this on guitar, quite easy with capo on 7th fret.
Love the folk sound of it, and Sir Winwoods vocal is just perfect.
