Listening to Moya Brennan of Clannad fame on "My 70's" on Johnny Walker's programme. She kicked my memory into gear. This song is (I believe) is the only song in Gaelic to enter the British record charts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KpNzalFKPo Clannad, Theme from Harry's Game Edited by BigTone, Monday, 27. This is more of a childhood memory but always have to turn it up when it comes on the radio, dont ask me why and its always to the embarrassment of those in the truck with me! Mott the Hoople http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sih9OVokuQ Not sure why the drummer is using such big sticks,....... Andy, all those were great and have most on CD, Specials, Madness, Bad Manners.......They had a come back when I was at college and were on at break times, even doing the madness dance on the desks! |

When asked 'the best guitarist in the world', a large number of folks pick the usual suspects (who are, lets face it, absolutely brilliant on electric guitars). Jimmy Hendrix, Steve Vai, and so on are amazing, but I also love acoustic guitarists just as much, and think they are easily as skilled (an example below). |

Thanks for posting up. I have never heard of 'gong' before, but I do have an appetite for discovering stuff I'm unaware of. Can't say its 'electronic', more like prog rock to my ears, early electronic to me is kraftwerk etc but its damn good stuff in the 1979 link posted. Floyd were doing electronic modular synth sounds , tape loops and mad effects a bit earlier (from 1967) I guess (big early Floyd fan here), but recently been listening to caravan a lot. Gong's early stuff is quite similar to some early Floyd, so will be downloading a lot more now. Thanks anyway, will be trying to listen to more gong now I think we can be proud that our own Delia Derbyshire was making electronic music from 1963 ! Or how about Acid House from 1958 !!! |
