I'm hoping to get up on a local hill on my bicycle with my DV27 on the rear rack and a TTi 550. Hoping to reach the net in the south west.

I could hear a few stations last week, but couldn't quite make the trip, so hoping to try another location as long as the weather is favourable.

Cheers Nik, you're quite right I need to take the camera with me.

I had a quick dry run today to another location, but my bike isn't exactly ideal for off roading too much.

So far I'm amazed at how well it's working, the DV27 takes a bit of keeping in tune. But is easy to adjust on the fly as it were.

I could almost hear you on the Mendips last week - another half S-Point would have been enough, so a slightly better location and some favourable conditions (as in low QRM) should allow you to make the trip down to us in the South :thumb:

Yes a Pole based antenna will be next at some point Nik.

Yes Gary I took on board what you said last week on air, and have made a subtle change, and a slightly better location. Packing up early in time to get home safely before it gets pitch black is the issue at this time of year, so I can't stray too far from home.

Thanks Jason and John. Tomorrows location has just popped in my head, having to drag the bike up the hill could mean I don't quite get to the top.

I got up to around 1600 feet ASL, it was hard to get out of the wind and stop the bike blowing over.

I had 4 contacts, I could also hear the net in the south but wasn't being heard.

I had to pack up fairly early so as to negotiate a tricky decent whilst it was still light, and I was suffering a bit from being exposed to a strong westerly wind.

Here's a quick video on a cheap action cam of the wild location

Great little vid there Stu, and good effort getting up to that location on the bike! The DV27 seems to work ok with the cycle counterpoise. Hows the swr on the set up, and have you had a set of head phones in and tried it on the move yet?

Cheers Paul, there'll be no riding and talking going on at the mo :o

The SWR is really low, but it seems to vary every time I go out, and it has a very narrow operating window.

Yes it was a challenging location for dragging a heavy bike up to that's for sure.

Nice Job there Stu, always good to see someone doing something a little different and there are so many possibilities!

Shame we didn't hear you down South, those ears we had on must have been waxed filled, maybe next time!

Great effort though! :thumb:

Yes the TTi is very good on receive, people in the noise that I can tell are there but not make out a word on my FT450 and Superstar Lord are actually people I could have a conversation with on the TTi that allows me to hear every word!

I've currently got a 6 amp/hour sealed motorcycle battery Nik.

We tried a different location on Sunday, but it turned out to be A1 on the skip, but a bit deaf otherwise - hopefully will make contact from a better location soon.
