A few of us are keeping Sid CT141's Sunday DX running on after it's usual closing time of 4pm - partly due to Olga often knocking the net around in the early afternoon and partly due to wanting to take advantage of the low QRM/QRN and Tropo lifts that are characteristic of evening time radio conditions, especially in the Winter. Very informal and usually it's just some of us chatting amongst ourselves, but if you hear us, give us a shout Net proper is around 2pm - 4pm and the extended version can run on until 9pm. Preferred channel is UK FM Ch34, but will move around if need be (but tends to be in the 30's) |

Hey Tim. I had you 5/9 in the Lake District, Northwest England. I heard you going back to Gary no problems, but couldn't get him because of the hash coming in... I got a good soaking, but it was worth it:-) Nap |

just lately i find i get more contacts after 4pm i have sat there called in at 2pm put on the list and watch the list go around quite a few times and me missed out dont know whats going on there.i know when im home based i am a bit deaf due to noise.when i first joined these nets if i couldn't hear anyone new i said to the chair carry on down the list not heard anyone new.took all of 20sec's.last sundays net 18th may the same. which i also bought 4 new stations up to 34 with me they never even got called in out of 3hours listening got 4mins of talk time Wednesdays and Saturdays the same had more contacts after 10pm shouldn't you be a bit more welcoming to them new stations that join instead of leaving them out its not really a good way to get them to come back in again.also Saturday there was one calling qsk for over 30mins he was acknowledged after but never called back.i know sometimes you are busy but come on it dont take long to say to the person i will put you on the list listen out who you can hear and when its your turn you can shout them. |

The Sunday dx net has many stations that help to run it,some stations are acknowledged but remember the strongest one is heard ,what with olga music players mike keyers etc its very hard to hear some stations when they call in especially if they are 50 to 100 miles away,we do our best to keep it together, some stations complain they are missed out,I normally after going through the list ask if any other stations want to try for someone,I get lots of stations still saying they are missed out,if you're flicking through channels when one of the chairmen is calling you in there's not much we can do about it if you are not there.or maybe we have called the station in but you might have local QRM so missed the call.we apologise to the stations that we missed. |

ah right but there again thought thats why you have a lot of high ground stations all over the place so that the ones you cant hear can relay back when its your turn.im never far from a high ground station there are usually around 5 miles from me.just made me look bad when i bought 4 new ones on and never got called in.i remember the time even if you had 20 on you knew in around about 45/1hour it would be your turn again.isnt it more fair to if the station dont answer miss him out for his turn carry on down the list he may well be gone to toilet then call him again in 20mins to see if hes back if there is no answer after 3 attempts in a hour cross him off |

I can tell you from personal experience of running the nets at times, that time and time again I will call a station, no answer. Give a second call and still nothing. This station is missed off and possibly called next time around but by then you may have all sorts going on, new QSK stations, overseas station calls in and things go a different way altogether. At times running what can be a a hectic scramble to maintain some degree of order people do get missed, its a shame but it happens! The other issue is you finish your list as the chair and call "any other stations got this one"? no reply, then later its a case of "I never got to try for station x" We have to remember that some stations are strong some not so. Some have good "ears" and some not so. If you join a net, you need to be there when called as its very easy for you to drop off the list. It doesn't matter who calls you be it the "chair" at 100 miles away or your mate down the road, if you are not there you're not! When I started calling in to radio nets I learned very quickly to be there when called! You have to choose that 10-100 break carefully. Also you can't say, its my turn in 45mins or 1hour. If someone local to you comes in you may find that your turn comes much faster. I have chaired the Wednesday net many times and I have called stations with no reply, only to hear them later "I'm still here" type thing.......If you don't reply when called by multiple stations then you will get marked off the list! We have some great nets and we are lucky as many parts of the country struggle to have 3-4 contacts a week on the UKFM! |

First thing to make clear is that the Sunday DX is not a CT net - many people think it is due to the high numbers of CT stations that call in. The Sunday DX was around long before the UK CT group was formed in 2009 and, as far as I'm aware, it's always been structured and chaired in the way that it is now (judging by it's popularity over the years, something is right - it's not unknown for over 50 stations to call in over a two hour period). Chairing a net can be a thankless task and indeed it is very difficult to bring everyone in when sometimes ten stations are calling in at once with QRM and other QSO's going on at the same time. I know from my own experience that from a central and/or very high location the amount of radio traffic can be overwhelming, but I'm sure every net chair out there tries their best and puts in a lot of effort to be in the right place at the right time (often in all weathers). Some people prefer nets with the structure of the Sunday DX and others like the more orderly list-based approach of the Papa Lima and Homesteaders nets - both have merits and it's good that we do have the choice of what type of net to participate in. I like both and have run the CT Bank Holiday Nets in a similar fashion to the Papa Limas and Homesteaders - however, I've had negative comments over the years from some who complain they're out in the cold for too long before it's their turn. Personally I have a lot to be thankful for - it was the Sunday DX, the Papa Limas and the Homesteaders who inspired me to run CT CB activities and nets over the years when many had written UK CB off completely and it was whilst I was looking for good locations for the Sunday DX that I first headed up a mountain in Wales and the CTX idea was born - without the Sunday DX, CTX would not exist today. As I said in my original post in this thread, the Sunday DX net does run on longer when possible and is a lot quieter towards the end, so hopefully giving the opportunity for those who didn't make it in earlier to have some airtime |
