I have pondered the idea of having a wireless CB mike/speaker. I reckon I could set something up with a couple of PMR radios set on vox and use the speaker in / microphone connectors on the PMR set to send the audio from and to the CB. I'd need to engineer some simple VOX relay to key the CB mic. I know electronics engineers who could easily knock a simple PCB up. I wouldn't use the PMR set as my main CB mike, it would be more for having a listen out in the garden and having a quick shout in. I Has anyone heard of anything like this being done? I know you can get some Cobra sets with bluetooth mics, but I'm interested in doing something on the cheap. And some putting things together

Im no expert but I know one guy on here who is. A certain MR Philip - Qwedsa182. He recently made a repeater for mid band ch27. He will probably know about all the connections between radio's mic's and computers etc etc etc. Good luck with the project BTW

Or you could build your vox interface and use the FRN client software to do a CB to pmr crosslink as is already in action in quite a few places around the world and in Clacton on sea also possibly Shefield? not quite sure about that one as it may be a link from pmr/zello to a ham repeater for licenced use only, and before anybody says you cant do that sorry it already has been done quite a few times but is well moderated and you do need password access after you prove you are licensed (Ive been on 3 so far) Here is a UK gateway owner who already 446 and CB crosslinks and gives a lot of easy vox and comport keying interface build diagrams http://www.g0hwc.com/11m_gateway.html I have done it with some more expensive equipment but with the push of a button and antenna change can go crosslink from fsr 446 to CB any mode or even any HF/VHF/UHF frequency if it was legal, Ive done it with VOX in and comport keying out although also works vox in and out easily. The free FRN software does it all for you. \Forgot to mention if you are doing it for personal use better using an indoor antenna and low power or you will have all sorts of unwanted people coming through your cross link just for a laugh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFpFEiAwUNc&feature=youtu.be That is my personal gateway link on youtube: Edited by 26CT867 Phil, Monday, 14. Back in the 80s you could buy a wireless CB mic. They worked on 49MHz. A friend had one. It worked OK but I wasn't inspired to try one. |
