It was September last year that I had a dream about chatting on CB again, so I thought "what the hell" and got set up with a radio. It's a decision I have not regretted. I got myself a lovely Intek M760 plus radio second hand, and a cheap ole mag mount antenna for the car. I went out to my nearest hillside and immediately found a group of friendly breakers to chat to, who I still regularly speak with now. These chaps were very pleasant and it was a nice welcome back into the hobby. I discovered things like the channel 32 net on Sundays and began to take part. I now find my self heading to the hills every week to either take part in a net or just to flick around and have a chat with people I don't hear very well at home. It's a been an interesting year. I have learnt things that I didn't know before. I better understand wavelengths and modulation modes. I have a better understanding of different antenna types and radiation patterns. But most importantly, I have made some good friends over radio, many of whom I have met in person. I have also had much kindness shown to me. There are always many people on hand both on the radio it's self and on Internet forums such as this. I have been kindly given and lent various equipment in recent months which is really nice and shows the sort of people who you meet in this fantastic hobby. Just yesterday, I was given the bottom 3 sections from a 50FT steel mast by a chap in High Wycombe for free. The spirit of radio really is alive and well. I have dealt with 2 or 3 unpleasant people on the radio over the past year; contrast that with the possibly >100 fantastic breakers I have had QSO with in the last year. I'm very happy with my home set up at present and for the last 8 months have been enjoying working DX on SSB on my Ranger RCI2950DX. Things are looking great for the future. I am taking my amateur foundation licence in November and look forward to being able to work some other bands in the not too distant future. Regardless of my amateur ticket, I have no plan to give up CB what so ever and will continue to enjoy it as part of my radio hobby. I'm glad to be back into radio, and would like to thank all the people on this forum who have helped me with various issues and given invaluable advice . I'm looking forward to another year of radio fun. |

Hi Chris, glad that met and gained benefit from so many "good buddies". Lots of moans (sometimes very justified)on here and on other forums about idiots, morons and rip off artists that it is nice to hear a good story. Hope you keep enjoying the hobby
