Hi chaps and chappeses

Can anyone reccomend a better flexible antenna to fit my Baofeng UV5RC that is set up ONLY for PMR 446 frequencies?

I'm not a radio expert but I believe the original little rubber duck is a comprimise biased towards the 146 meter stuff as its primarily an amateur radio, I'm looking for one that is more focused on the PMR 446 frequencies if possible.
Thanks in advance

I actually agree with you there mate i have the Diamond RH771 which is the same as the Nagoya 771 and its a brilliant antenna. Its dualband too so it will also work on the 2m / 70cm bands when you get your licence

N R If your thinking about a small home base antenna i also recomend to try the sirio CX 440 great antenna about 2 foot in length BUT use rg 213 coax or better . You will be amazed how good this little antenna works for it,s size .. Cheers and Beers Chris .

You'll need a female to female SMA coupler. I recently took delivery of a UV5R, Nagoya 771 and mag mount car antenna. I thought I had bought the wrong antennas, but turns out the UV5R connectors are a*** about face.

The Nagoya antennas are available in both male and female fittings, you just need to order the right one for your radio, then you wont need the adapter :thumb:

I have a TYT TH-UVF9 and it uses the Male SMA Nagoya NA-771 antenna , as dose the Yaesu handies .
Its strange that both antennas carry the same model number and I can imagine quite a lot of people have ordered the wrong fit .

Here are a couple of simple magmount antennas that I made stuck on my car boot .
The left hand one is a antenna that I picked up from a carwash floor , Got a mate to check the SWR with his fancy HF swr meter and it was 1.4 on channel 1 PMR .Placed it up on the garage roof and got right across Hartlepool with it.
The right hand antenna I gave away to a mate so didn't get a chance to test its SWR but they are just 6 and a quarter in of wire a electric connector a small magnet and about 20 ft of coax .
When I get round to it ill climb up and stick it to the unused TV antenna up on the roof .

These are dedicated to 446 only and are to short for 144mhz use .

You'll have a job... Magnets don't stick readily to aluminium (unless you use some strong glue) :P

Hello All,

That is rather expensive!
It is almost identical to the Carant (Hungarian made) yagis that I bought on ebay from Swiss company ShifferTec.
I bought three for about the price of one in the above link!!

This link is for buying three yagis:

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=251279930875

I use two at home, one vertical, one horizontal and the third one is used portable.

Someone could buy three and share them round if you only want one.

These have an FME connector rather than an SMA but cable with FME connectors is also available on ebay. I bought 7 metre and 10 metre FME to N-Type leads in H155PE coax. It is a 5mm UHF coax that is very flexible and easy to handle but has excellent low loss characteristics at 70cm/pmr446.

Best wishes, John.

Are the portable PMR446 aerials short wire types?

I have a Baofeng UV-5R with a Diamond 771 aerial however I'm looking for something with a magnetic base for the car whilst on the move.

If possible, I'd like to cover 2m, 70cm and PMR446 as I'm starting my foundation course in May.
