Hi, Not exactly a newbie to CB but it has been around 20 years since I bought my first one. That went when I sold the car and moved away. Now married with 2 boys I have just bought my second CB, an Amstrad CB901, for £4 at a car boot sale. Its probably older than my first one but as the proud owner of a 21 year old car and 31 year old caravan, I like retro. Mostly getting it to have comms with a friend I off-road with - assuming it works. The lights come on but I've not connected the aerial yet. Trying to convince the seat cover that if she will part company with £20ish for a mount and cable it's a good thing to have . I still remember my handle, do I need a call sign as well? Alex |

Hi Alex and welcome to the forum There is no harm in requesting a call sign. It is mainly used for 11m dxing (contacting other countries). Your CB will only cover the uk legal channels (i think) but at this time of the year there is often short skip (e layer propogation) and the UK part of the 11m band (27.60125 - CH 1 to 27.99125 - CH 40 ) which your radio works on, often has several european and scandinavian operators dxing. If this is likely to be your thing, then having an 11m callsign like 26CTxxxx will be useful, and will also let receiving stations know that you are with the best and largest 11m CB group in the UK :-) ATB Lowflyer 108ct036 |

Hi Alex, Welcome to the CT DX group. Paul has explained the callsign benefit perfectly, and if you would like to be assigned one, just ask. I hope you can get an antenna soon, and if you need any help setting it up, there is plenty of information on the forum, and lots of other members who are only too willing to offer advice, Nik |
