Charlie Tango DX is a group dedicated to Hobby Radio Users in all forms, whether CB, Amateur, PMR446, Scanning and Short Wave Listening.
We are a very active and friendly group that welcomes anyone from anywhere in the world who has an interest in Radio, regardless of their level of experience, their equipment, their location, or their radio preference. We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

Hi there

My name is Leon and I am from West Yorkshire and enjoy a number of hobbies, some of which is on the back burner and like with the radio interest has come to the surface again. I was intrduced in to the CB world in 1980 and was on and off until about 1995 when I sold up and had enough of the chaos but funny entertainment. I used to hang around with a guy and had a great time ssb'ing on a Cobra 148. I messed about making my own antenna's and experimenting but was limited in the lack of information and which was available back then relying on magazines and knowledge other people on the cb which had experience with. I think the internet has been for me a goldmine for contact and information.

Moving on to the future, last year I bought a pair of Binatone terrain750 pmr units for my wife and daughter to get in touch. Looking into pmr I purchased a Baofeng uv-5r unit to experiment with and I use the unit if my wife and daughter disappear with the dog so we can all get in touch. I know we all have mobile phones nowaday's but it's not the same. A few week's ago I endulged and bought a Harvard 410T handheld because I had some good mobile fun on one many years ago. I also bought it to see what was going on where I live......and its nearly clearly empty with just a few regulars abusing each other! Last week I bought a simple cheapish setup a Maas KCB 8040 to go mobile with and didn't know if it was any good or not but looking on the internet I don't think I have done bad.

Full circle to which I ended here, I was on youtube looking for info about the rig and came across Garry CTX104 and CTX965 channel's and has opened my eyes to an interesting area of radio comms that appeals to me. I have just today ( Saturday 27th July ) bought a telescopic pole and parts plus a host of other bits and bobs. My wife shaking her head and calling me an anorak! This is where I come to the point and ask if I can request a call sign please.....A request for the 1960 on the end numbers but if not no probs. I have a lot I can learn on here and a start of something interesting....................... :thumb:

Hi Leon, glad you found our CTX videos and activities inspiring :thumb:

Quite an active group of stations up in the North of England now and Craig 483 recently chaired a really good net up there, that was well supported and I even managed to make contact from South Wales. Should be another soon and we do have a CT Bank Holiday net coming up on the 26th of August :)

Hi there

Many thanks for the warm replies so far on to the forum and a thankyou from admin for the callsign allocation. I realised shortly after posting when browsing the forum that my request for given number had already been in use. I am pleased with the number I have been issued with.

I am not as yet set up as an operator as I am waiting for a number of parcels to drop on my doorstep next week from ebay. I enjoy walking around the many hills to which are on my doorstep and beyond when I get the free time to do it and I will be plotting some locations to base myself in the future.

Regards

Leon
