We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

Hello fellow radio buddies.
my name is Gary, and i have been using both AM and FM on and off since the late 70's, with the same handle POPEYE.
I am a home base user primarily, but do sometimes take a rig out and do some late night DXing up on box hill.
My prefered mode is AM although i do use FM just as much, At 51 i think i'm just about ready too take the next step to possibly gaining my ham licence, if i only knew where to start.
Anyway enough about me, coz my finger hurts with all this typing, i wanna get back to the mike :phew: wow just done my first post

Hi Gary,

Welcome to C.T. yip, you are for sure in good company, plenty of older dudes like myself on here from the good old 70's. Nice to have you return to the hobby, and it's nice that you'll be able to chat over old times with us over 55's, lol.

Hi Gary, I am just up the road to you in Whyteleafe but I am at the bottom of the valley so sadly FM is dead here, not tried AM for sake in interference issues, there is a local repeater for 2m (ham) which has just been relocated to Caterham on the hill (GB3NS) which is very useful for getting around on if you ever take you licence

Hello Brendan,
 buddy, i had forgotten how much fun it was back then, and now i wonder why i ever gave it up. Just the other day i was chatting to Mike in Belfast, the modulation was a bit poor but still gave me a signal strength of around 6 on my radio.

Hello Simon,
I know Whyteleafe well, is that shop still there that sells mopeds and stuff? yes mate fm is dead in croydon too, and am has more than its fair share of interference, but i get my new radio in about a months time, a nice maxlog m-8800, with 10m 11m 12m wave bands on it, not sure what they are like but its my first bug rig, and have been told its a good starting rig.
