We are a very active and friendly group that welcomes anyone from anywhere in the world who has an interest in Radio, regardless of their level of experience, their equipment, their location, or their radio preference. We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

Alphabet Word Association

Here's a new game for you. This is something we do at the hospital to exercise the mind as well as the body, and to break the monotony of exercising during the Hydrotherapy sessions :-
Alphabet Word Association - How does it work?
We start with a word beginning "A" . . . . e.g. APPLE
The next person has to say something associated with, or connected to, "Apple" but beginning with "B"
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Apple to BANANA

The next person has to say something associated with, or connected to, "Banana" but beginning with "C". The obvious answer might be Coconut, continuing the Fruit theme. Coconut would be perfectly valid, but it is more fun if someone changes the direction a bit, so let's say
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Banana to CUSTARD

The next person has to say something associated with, or connected to, "Custard" but beginning with "D"
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Custard to DESSERT

The next person has to say something associated with, or connected to, "Dessert" but beginning with "E"
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Dessert to ECLAIR

--------------------------------------
and so on and so on down to
--------------------------------------

The next person has to say something associated with, or connected to, "Yeti" but beginning with "Z"
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Yeti to ZOO

--------------------------------------
and then to A once again
--------------------------------------

The next person has to say something associated with, or connected to, "Zoo" but beginning with "A"
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Zoo to ANIMAL

The next person has to say something associated with, or connected to, "Animal" but beginning with "B"
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Animal to BEAR

Why is "Unworkable" associated with "Vacuum tubes" !?? :doh2:
It's no more tentative than a musical instrument to harmonics...... or JRC to instrument......... but in answer to the question, more tubes, more power, more power, more workable therefore less unworkable......

Well, Cliff, harmony is one of the absolutely basic things in music, and thus almost all instruments depend on the physical principle of harmonics, one way or the other.

It's a bit like radio and electromagnetism... nothing tentative at all, there. The association is stronger than "beer" with "bottle." :)

had you have said instrument and a picture of an spectrum analyzer I'd have understood it but not a musical instrument, IMHO that is a tentative association......

and JRC to instrument :doh2:

anyway, thought this was suppose to be a bit of fun in the playground

Hihi, Cliff, it might sound strange - but "harmonics" works exactly the same for radio waves and for sound waves. :) It's something intrinsic to the nature of waves.

By the way, also many people who build musical instruments nowadays use spectrum analyzers to get an idea of how well the instrument "works". :)

I doff my cap to you George, I was just being punctilious and pulling your leg - I used to play the trumpet years ago so am aware of the link

Happy New Year guys

WELL DONE ON GETTING THROUGH THE ALPHABET THE FIRST TIME.

I DO THINK THAT THE PLOT WAS LOST A FEW TIMES THOUGH, AND PEOPLE JUST GAVE ANY RADIO-RELATED ANSWER TO THE NEXT LETTER.
THAT WAY IS AMUSING AND ENTERTAINING TOO, BUT THE IDEA OF THIS PARTICULAR GAME IS TO SEE JUST HOW FAR AWAY FROM AN ORIGINAL TOPIC IT CAN GO, PROVIDING EACH ANSWER IS RELEVANT TO ITS PREDESCESSOR.

  • So if A is to follow “Zepp” then an answer might be “ANTENNA”
  • B might pick up on the OTHER meaning of Antenna and say “BEETLE”
  • The next person might think of a Volkswagen Beetle and say “CAR”
  • Which might lead to “DRIVE”
  • And the next person might think of the front of a house, leading to the garage, and say “ENTRANCE”
So you can see that there is not one single topic. And in four steps it has gone from Antenna to Entrance.

* * * * * Back to the Game * * * * *

As MikeAlpha has restarted us with ANTENNA I am going to take the hint above and think "Insect" but I won't use the obvious "Beetle". I'll go for

.BUG.
