hi everyone....... i've had this army radio for just over a year now and i have always ran the radio on mains power, but i now want to go portable with it......... but the thing is that i don't have a charger for the battery. this might sound a bit silly but is there another way of charging the battery without damaging it. the battery is a 24v battery at 1Ah. i will be thankful for any advise and any tips with the battery or the radio. |

Hi Matt, Just been perusing the 'bay after looking at new member kingsly (Charlie Tango 941) youtube vids about his "go-box" project and seeing using a sealed lead/acid battery and having thoughts about sticking a couple of these in a clansman battery case. You don't happen to know what the internal dimensions of the case is do you, even the external will do please? I've had an educated guess that at these dimensions will fit...... Have you had any ideas about the same thing? 73 Cliff ![]() PS: In answer to your question - 24v DCCU converts 12v to 24v Edited by MikeAlpha3041, Monday, 12. November 2012, 19:34.

What are the additional knobs from, they look a good fit, like they're meant to be there I'm gradually building up my 351, and I've built a 70Mhz 1/2wave dipole for it, quite pleased with the results so far.

I have the clip on hand generator at the moment, seems to top the charge up quite well, just ordered the EPS mains charger at £38, don't know if I can advertise where from (must read the rules I suppose) be handy if there were other users in my region to actually hear though

Hi Andy, they are control knobs for music equipment, you can get them from here Pedal Parts their service is excellent, I ordered them one day and were delivered the next. Just apply a few drops of superglue, line em' up - sorted. They really do make it so much easier on the fingers...... ![]() I left the single switch on the other-side as is simply because you rarely use it and it make it too proud of the unit body, you'll see what I mean if you offer one up to it. It took me ages to source them but well worth the effort

Hi, I used the calculator kindly shown by Mike. Cut my copper wire (good sturdy stuff) to the correct lengths. This is then mounted in 20mm plastic piping available from hardware stores, the centre part being a T junction. I've closed the ends with small spray bottle caps to weather proof. I've listened in to taxis on my 70Megs on it, but the 321 is very quiet, nothing heard on 4m or the limited 6m freqs. I've also made up a 2m 1/2wave dipole out of a couple of old telescopic radio aerials, fixed to a tv beam that's been stripped down, that seems to work quite well too. Use the same calculator to do the maths to get the correct lengths required. The beauty of telescopic aerials is that you can adjust /fine tune it without cutting!! |

Matt, you need one of these if you want to charge when portable http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=Clansman+generator&_sacat=0&_from=R40, I was surprised how efficient they are!! Wow, what service, ordered the little knobs yesterday from Pedal Parts, and here they are this morning... Just found the Superglue has set in the tube...doh.

Have fond (yea right) memories of manpacking these radios back in the late 70s and early 80s in HM Forces..mind you they were a tad better than the old A41 manpack sets..I always thought the range was a tad limited at around 3-5 miles..mind you further was possible with the wind behind you!! |

I've been offered one of these radios and it will be a bit of a trek to go and pick it up. Apart from the fun element of having one of these, are you guys actually being able to make good practical use of them and be picking up contacts at all, particularly on 6m? Best Wishes, David |
