my inconsiderate wife has gone and got herself a job
How TERRIBLE!! All that extra Radio Income coming into the Household!

I assume it is a Bad Thing as you don't operate from Home, but need to be there for Junior-Mullets? But if the XYL is now going to be out of sight, isn't that an opportunity for a decent home-base Aerial Array, and once they're fitted and working you'll have something to do while "herself" is out.

Hello Guys,

I'll be swling ch34 but it will be more in hope than with confidence as the summer E conditions have not really come into effect yet here in Corsica island.

But who knows ? so fingers firmly crossed..........we might just get lucky.

Good luck to all of you who are taking part in the Easter Net...... I hope that mother nature plays here part and that you have excellent conditions plus good weather also, especially for those operating from portable stations.

Windy weather is my biggest enemy - cold, hot, rain or snow is Ok, but trying to put a 10m antenna pole and tent up on the top of a hill or mountain can be near impossible in high winds :o

I'll be out no matter what, but high winds will mean a less ambitious location.

Well, looks like I am stuck at home for this one. :(

The good lady has been summoned to work so I am on Daddy duty with my 6 yr old daughter, who finds the thought of sitting on a hill for four hours whilst dad talks to a box, quite boring (apparently).

Still, I'll get my home brew twigs out, park her in front of Disney Cinemagic, and see how we go :D

High winds and heavy rain made it only a static mobile effort for me, but we did enjoy an excellent net this afternoon. The net ran from 2pm - 4:15pm with an informal session at the end which ran through until around 5:30pm.

I was on the Blorenge Mountain in South Wales 561 m (1,841 ft), using a Moonraker FA5000 radio and Les Wallen Modulator twig.

In the log:

CT345 - Ron, Evesham
CT30 - Andy, Worcester
CT148 - Wayne, Swindon
GB05 - Ian, Gloucester
163CT105, Steve, Cardiff
WW02, Andy, Westbury
Ned, Nelson
CT141 - Sid, Nr. Swindon
CT87 - Gary, Dorset/Wilts border Nr. Salisbury
CT774 - Nick, Bristol
CT592/725 - Mick and Ian, Clee Hills
CT439 - Ian, Exeter
EB - Cardiff
GB13 - Roger, Gloucester
CT763 - John, Buxton
CT478 - Tom, Birmingham
JR - John, Street
TM760 - Chris, High Wycombe
CT145 - Dave, Royal Wootton Bassett
Shotgun - John, Gwent
Sidekick - Kieron, Merthyr
UP002 - Ian, Nr. Manchester
PL60 - Robert, Taunton
CT542 - Brian, between Exeter/Plymouth
Matrix - Gareth, Merthyr
Wayne, Blackwood
CT533 - Gary, Basingstoke
FT113 - Patrick, Minehead
GW15, Vic, Swindon

Special thanks to Gary CT87, Mick CT592, Ian CT725 and Steve 105 for greatly assisting the net today and making it a huge success :thumb:

Some big distance contacts today, my best was CT533 in Basingstoke (92 miles) but probably the longest were some of CT592/725's contacts, with several over the 100 mile mark, including 123 miles to Ian CT439 and 102 miles to CT533 in Basingstoke.

Thanks to everyone who gave it a go today :thumb:

Those were the stations who made it onto the net in some capacity - I was able to contact most of them, but Mick 592 was definitely the main man for the Midlands and Northern stations ;)

I have somehow perfected a way of eating with one side of my gob and talking with the other :)

Like Gary 87 said, I think most of us were running flatside at times due to the strength of the winds bending the antennas over :o

A couple of pics which do show the pants weather.

An EXCELLENT afternoon on the Radio, just proving that FM CB is far from dead and most certainly is NOT merely the domain of the foul Muppets.

The Formal Net was a bit slow to get going at the scheduled start time of 14:00 and we only had about four or five stations on for the first fifteen minutes or so. But, as is usually the case, the stations started rolling-in and peaked at about 30 (ish) stations on the Net. The formal part of the Net was wound-down at about 1630 - 17:00 but a few of us stayed on the frequecy for a bit of chatter and informal banter (specifically Gary104, Mick and Ian on Clee Hills, Gary 2 The Dog and myself)

All in all it was a very good afternoon and a credit to Charlie Tango and to the CB Community.

  • Mick and Ian on Clee Hills managed some stunning distances, amongst them:
    • 122 miles to Exeter
    • 104 iles to Basingstoke
    • about 110 to Craig in Skipton

  • But you don't always need a mountain, nor Power, to get a bit of Range.
From Cardiff, my humble Homebase CB* had loads of contacts and managed some respectable distances to:
    • the Guys on Clee: about 65-70 miles
    • Sid in Swindon: 60-65 miles
    • Brian Nr. Dartmoor: about 70ish
    • GB13 in Gloucester: 50-55 miles

    * My "Working Conditions" comprised
    • TEAM Euro 8000 Homebase rig (Bog-Standard 4w, unmodified, un-amplified)
    • Original (Mini-Hand) Microphone
    • Sirio 827 on 20' scaff pole

If there was anything to complain about on the day (as the weather was certainly no factor for me at home :D ) it'd be the over-abundance of Garrys, Garys, Gareys, Garries and Gharrees. We did seem to be overrun by by various "Garry" names at once stage . . . I wonder if you're all of a similar age and, if so, WHO was the famous Gary that your parents were all so very impressed with Forty-something yearsa ago or whatever?
I believe that Gary-Offplanet-104 and Gary-"the-Dog"-Schnorbitz have taken to referring to each other as "Gary Number 1" and "Gary Number 2" but, surely, I cannot be the only person to recall the potty-training of small children, and the parental question, "do you need Number one or number two?". So come on Garys, bin your Code and just be honest "Urine to Faeces, how copy? ", "Faeces to Urine, you're five and eight ". :D

Although I was only able to stay on the radio for an hour or so I enjoyed every minute, well impressed with the distances achieved
on a mobile antenna so much so I don't know whether I'll bother with at a99 in future, by the way Steve, although we didn't get a chance for a Qso, I must say you've got a cracking audio.
A big thanks to all the Gary's and everyone else who took part

Many thanks to CT592 - Mick for helping to make the contacts.

Great to QSO with you all!

If I didn't get back to anybody I apologise. The car-battery went flat in the middle of it all, with the wind howling and the rain lashing down. The contacts log got soaked along with everything else, so I'm sorry if I missed you out.

Thanks,

John 26CT763.
