Hi guys,

I was wondering if we were going to have an official CT PMR channel, so you are more likely contact a fellow CT'er than just scanning. I know down here a few of us already use channel 3 CTCSS 15 so something further up the band like. Channel 7 CTCSS 20 maybe?

Cheers
Joseph

Hi Joe

I can't speak for the CT group, but I would consider that have an "official" PMR446 channel will be quite difficult. There are many local users in different parts of the country. Also there are internet gateways on 446 and accidentally transmitting on their frequency/ctcss could be problematic if it coincided for a calling channel.

I see your point though, it would be nice to have a standard calling channel but then QSY to another channel. May be a DX/CB style users map or area listings for 446 would be useful.

Best wishes

Dave

I did see on a blog site I was looking at the other day that Ch8 (no tone) was a calling channel, but it was written a few years ago. If this is still the case, can any one confirm it?? If so, sounds good to me. In Ireland Ch8 is used by hillwalkers for general comms and emergency purposes.

Cheers

Dave

Channel 8 and with tone 8 (88.5) has for many years been the PMR446 DX standard protocol.

Go on high ground on a Sunday afternoon (around here at least) and your sure to hear someone giving a shout on channel 8.
Cheers and 73

There used to be several PMR446 DXers in my area using Ch7 (no tone), but they seemed to disappeared. So I might adopt ch8 (with or without 88.5Hz) instead. Lot of my gear has a 9th channel allocation in the memory bank, so will program in the additional Ch8 with ctcss of 8 (88.5Hz).

I hope this thread is going the direction you were looking for Joe!!
