Yes, the 880 can be opened-up . . . or certainly some, if not all, models of that rig can.

Some sellers do actually offer it for sale in "Export" Mode with the 400 channels straight from the box. I believe that some versions can also be tweaked up to 20 or 25w also.
Yes, that would be AM and FM.

I rergret I personally don't know the Modification though. Sorry.

I have done mine

Take the top cover off and behind the LED at the edge of the board there are two small resistors labelled S01 S02, there is a resistor on S01 and this needs to be moved across to S02 and then radio resets and the bands PX, RU are active

when you select country option this allows also PX, RU but when selected and key mike it is not active, the above mod will rectify this. Now the radio is 400 channel

rU 25.615-30.105
PX 25.610-30.110

yes the mod does give you am and fm right across the band about the power mod i personally would not do any power mods as i dont think the radio would last long if you want a high power 880 buy the high power one as the output transistors are different as i have both radios the high power one and the standard 4w version

Thats as much as i can tell you as my electronic abilities are not great i am sure some one on here will know a lot more than me about this
