I was the same Nige..! Hands cut off me and a few swear words said during assembly but having said that apart from not having a decent swr reading after going by manufacturers instructions I have so far no other issue with it and if i can get the swr down to a decent reading on the swr meter I think it could turn out to be my best antenna to date and would go as far as to say it is better than my previous antenna the 827 cause the receive on it is excellent and as for being heavy duty and well made well it most definitely is that and a beast of an antenna..! Method of assembly in my opinion is a pain in the ass but I think the performance once you get the antenna tuned etc will make the effort needed worth it..! Good luck to anyone thinking of getting one..! Worth a shot I say..

@Monza,,Nige..! Tell me Nige did you isolate it from the pole or just through it onto the pole and up into the air and if you didn't isolate it from pole is there any issues with swr when it rains..?

Thanks Sam..! Good job..! I'd a Sirio gpe-27 once and everytime it rained my swr went away up and it wasn't until I isolated the pole from the antenna that it stopped doing so..! I hope once I get The Mantova Turbo to a decent swr reading that the rain won't have no effect on my swr reading like it did with the gpe-27..! Fingers crossed..

Swr on Mantova pushing 100w (fm) are : 26.965 1.5,,27.385 1.1,,27.555 1.0,,27.995 1.8..! Absolutely brilliant antenna for band coverage..! Wouldn't fault them and can honestly say once assembled and tuned by far the best vertical antenna I've had to date..! Beats an 827 hands down or an Imax 2000..! I've had both..! Gainmaster also..! Doesn't lace it's boots..! Highly recommended..! A keeper and one that put up correctly should last for years..! P.S : As stated above an absolute B******s of an antenna to assemble but once assembled it is a performer..! 50+ miles ground-wave contacts (no conditions)...! :thumb:

i've had the sigma mantova turbo up for a couple of months drop the mast to do some winter checks and found water had been leaking through the s0239 socket into the pl259 and coax ,i always use self amalgamating tape on my coax connections so they were not expose to the weather . on closer inspection it looks like the base of the antenna has been filling up with water then escaping through s0239 socket ,any one else had this problem?

Gary, that is why I use a product called "Stuf" from Cross Devices. I is a Teflon Dielectric Paste that goes inside the SO-239 and helps prevent the water from passing down into the feed line. I always check my feed lines just in case however. It is very hard to keep water out of an antenna that is twisting and bending up in the air...I don't care how much we try and protect every crook and cranny.

Thanks for the tip ,i have drill a drain hole into bottom of the radial plate which clamps down onto the hub to allow the water to escape and i will also try Stuf as it can only help .

Thanks again Marconi

Just coming across your posts Gary and Eddie...!! Having a slight issue with my Mantova of late Gary regarding swr rising last week in freezing conditions (problem seems to be away now)..!! I must look at my pl plug when I can get near the antenna when heavy rain here in Northern Ireland goes away..!! I've my pl plug well sealed and protected but you've made me aware of a possible weak point in the antenna..??

Had a prob with my Mantova when it rained SWR went threw the roof so took it down today and found the bottom section compleatly full of water here's a couple of pics
As you can see the glassfiber tube is full of crap there was a bung in the bottom and I knocked it out and this was the state of the inside

Posted Image

The water had come threw the hole where the bolt for the impiance coil connects and ran down to the PL socket il try and rebuild it if it don't get rebuilt il make it into some sort of vertical for HF !
