Not sure if this is ok for this area so here goes.
I recently got hold of a fishing bank stick an alloy type 4 feet long, and decided to use that as an earth for all my radios that required such a thing. So I picked a part of the garden that was close to the wall of the house and slowly hammered it into the ground, I have about 7 inches sticking up so I know at least a good 3.5 feet in under ground and a connector and a good earth wire yellow and green type electrical.
I used a metal bar that had holes into it and used those with terminals to other ground wires that they could all use the same metal bar going to my other radios. I do notice a good difference especially on the long wave and medium waves and some shortwave bands. The difference was enough to keep the earth for my setup.
Does any one else use an earth for there setup and does it improve or not?
BTW I don't use an earth for my CB radio.
Mike.

Hi Mike, I'm a keen SWL and MW DXer, and I've found that the freqs from about 3Mhz down to the bottom of the medium waveband were virtually unusable at this QTH due to electrical QRM, after a bit of experimenting I found that using an earth to my central heating pipes worked wonders, I know its not supposed to be agood idea to use CH as an earth, but it works for me, QRM has dropped from 9+20 to less than 5. 73s...............Andy.
They say hard work never killed anyone..........but why take the chance?
