I have here a RM KL-203p Linear, and I am considering buying a PSU to run it. The specs say that the current drain is 10A on AM, however past experience with smaller RM amps has taught me that this is a conservative estimate. (My 7-9A PSU wouldn't run a KL-40 which is meant to draw 5 Amps). So the question is, what size PSU are my fellow KL-203(P) owners using to run theirs? I can get a good deal on a 20A unit, and I was hoping that will be enough to run the radio and the linear together. Cheers. Edited by Mudslinger, Wednesday, 9. November 2011, 19:36.

I wrote this up for someone else who asked the same question. Using a maas dx5000 on (adjustable power 2.5w-12w AM/FM, fixed 20W PEP SSB) a PS30SWII 30A psu with current load meter, and a KL203 100w fm/200w ssb linear amp, and a Zetagi Mod 203W SWR / Wattmeter. ON FM Radio power output adjusted to 4w - psu load 4w - Amp + Radio load 12w - Amp output - 70w Radio power output adjusted 7w - psu load 4w - Amp + Radio load 16w - Amp output - 90w Radio power output adjusted to 10w - psu load 4.5w - Amp + Radio load 19w - Amp output - 120w ON SSB Radio Power fixed at 20w - psu load 8w - Amp + Radio load 24w average - 28w peak - Amp output -175-200w pep I would suggest a 20A continious PSU to power a 100w fm/200w ssb linear, with the radio on a seperate PSU or a 30A continious to run both off the same PSU. Naturally some radios will demand less load from the PSU than the above example, but you are better having a bit of head room left to play with. Cheers Edited by Lowflyer, Wednesday, 9. Thanks for the help guys. I may go for a 25-30A one as I want to run it along with My Jackson, which takes about 4.5 Amps on its own. Simon.

Cheers for that Mate. I did see a Mass 25A one for sale at £60, but I cannot remember where it was. Are they any good? I remember it having two meters on it. I might just use it to run the linear come to think of it and keep the radio on a seperate non-switchmode PSU. |
