I though i got myself a bargain , oh well Here is my predicament. I purchased this astatic tear drop off reports that i read all over the net . It turned up . And shall we say it was NO WAY as described on the listing. First thing was the battery had corroded itself to the terminal so the battery connector was unserviceable. This was replaced easily . Wired up the mic for a K-po DX 5000 and off we go , well may be not . The problem i have is that when i key up it takes the Mic about 2 -10 to get it act into gear. I have checked the voltage on the board coming out of the 9v cell and this is not dropping to a level where it will not drive the 2n5484 (It loses about 2 tenths of a volt ) amplifier. The question i have is should the caps be this pointy i think they may be blow but i don't want to start pulling the whole thing to pices and start replacing caps. I have never delt with Axial capasitor before but when the diaelectric ones go hot dog shape time to be replaced. Half of me says back it to the seller but the other is well this mic is very good i have been getting nothing but good reports on radio check. Has anyone before replaced the 4.7 µF caps on the PCB and did this make any difference. I must confess i was gob smacked at how shoddily these things were put together. Thanks in advance for any help . Giles [imgh=900]http://z1.ifrm.com/2510/101/0/p1024375/IMAG0475_1_.jpg[/imgh] |

Hi, There are a few threads on this site relating to a delay before audio 'kicks in' for these Anytone/KPO rigs. I have'nt used a KPO so I have no idea what they are like to wire up. Before you start ripping the mic apart, try wiring it for a Uniden/Cybernet board and see if you have the same problem. The Astatic Teardrop 575-M6 is one of the best mics out there and I currently have one wired for my FT2K and SS360FM. I have not heard of anyone having these 'delay' type probs from this mic. Tell us how you get on. cheers, adonis |

i think pin 4 on the mic socket carrys volts on the kpo so dont wire your mic to that pin. i put a power mic on the anytone but left pin 4 out |

Definitely right... disconnect pin 4. Also, these DX5000 / 5555 rigs don't appreciate loud mic inputs. On my Road Devil the volume slider only needs to be 1/4" up ! Before you go ape with a soldering iron, try the Teardrop with very little output, and see how it works. Loud input causes a limiter in the radio to cut out for a moment (don't know the techy reason) but lower the input volume and it sounds great. Ugs

Cheers for that matey . I did loads of reading before I went ape with the solder iron ;-) . In the end I sent the item back to the person I got it off, as they went totally truthful with the listing ( lost out on postage but i can live with that). On the listing he said it was immaculate but when I took the back of it was in a right state. In the end he refunded my money but . I was Truthful and told him about the state of the capacitors and they were un serviceable. I Tried the mic on an Lincon and it did the same thing. If the mic had been in a better state of repair and not smelt like an ash tray . Along with the contents of one in it i properly would have kept it but I just wanted my money back . Since i have sent it back to him he has had 2 other people leaving negative feedback . I will not be buying anything from him again . New Road devil on the way form the USA as we speak . |
