I have a veep I secured which came with no mic and have a spare Kenwood MC-43s off my TS570, will it work on the 4 pin wiring of the Veep which I understand to be Uniden pattern as below Pin 1 Ground Pin 2 Audio Pin 3 Tx Pin 4 Rx The Kenwood mike off the TS570 is 8 pin but has wiring for up/down which I wont need on the Veep This seems to be the wiring for the Kenwood Mic T = Transmit R = Receive M = Modulation E = Earth (common) U = Up D = Down SW = Switch Common Ok on the TX/RX Modulation I assume is audio? E is Earth Common i.e Braid SW Switch Common Now the SW is whats throwing me ? its a wire I wont have in the 4 pin setup TX/RX?Audio/Ground(Braid) looking to me like the TS570 mike is not suitable for the 4pin Uniden layout ?? |

In the kenwood mic, the actual mic element is wired permanantly to the mic input ( its not switched in and out of line ) as is common with most cb type mics, This is so that the VOX circuit works. so the microphone only really tx'es the rig, there is no rx via the mic as the kenwood radios dont require a microphone to have rx audio, The up/down as you say wouldnt be used on your cb radio. Hi Dave I don't know the Kenwood mic, but if there is a DPDT switch in it, then you can wire it up CB standard. You may need to be able to switch the mic element off on receive on one side of the DPDT switch. On the other side, switching TX and RX lines with the common (braid). Not forgetting the earth return of the mic element to the braid. For a simple arrangement, I wouldn't bother with the SW common and just use the braid. Hope that helps. Theres not a D.P.D.T switch used in this mic as there is no need to switch to rx or disable the Mic element for use on a kenwood radio. It uses a S.P.D.T switch Mark Edited by MadMark1, Saturday, 22. October 2011, 09:32.

Dave . . . . In summary, a Kenwood mic isn't really suitable for a CB Radio. Reason is that, generally, CBs need the mic to switch the set to Receive whereas Kenwoods etc do not. Given that a generic CB mic is less than a tenner (less than a fiver if you buy a used one) I really honestly wouldn't bother messing about with the MC43. In fact, you could probably sell the Kenwood mic on Fleabay and make enough to buy two new CB mics. Just click the button and order a new mic. Or if you're up Bristol way at any time, pop in and see Wayne and Terry at Bristol DX and they'll sort out a mic for you. |

Sorted I just used the spare Maycom mike and rewired it, so up and running with audio. Veep is showing 6w on the pwr meter so looks like its been tweaked somewhere in its life, just waiting for a shout on the lower EU 40 to test it out. |

Ok Veep RXs ok and shows 5w on the power meter but very low audio out ? only just being heard a short distance, in the shack I have another radio and on rx I have a job to hear my trans with the volume cranked up its there but very very faint! so all is not well with the Veep it seems? My Meter has modulation on it and I get very little movement on the meter like 5% max wondering now if the spare maycom mike is suitable for the Veep? will know shortly as I have a Mic off a Uniden to try?
