Is Channel 34 UKFM the 'CT' channel full stop now, I know it is used for the monthly net but can we use it for all CT contacts? What about CEPT could we have a channel on CEPT for use as a back up, because down here we have a few guys that sometimes use 34 and 36 on UKFM, so a CEPT Channel would be good for a back up. Cheers Joseph

We do review the CT calling channel from time to time At present, Ch34 is intended to be the CT channel of choice for all CT activity whether it be nets or QSO's - problem is, whatever channel we choose, somewhere in the UK it's going to be no good. Ch34 is often used by farmers in my area, but our previous choice of Ch10 is used by a large haulage company and our original choice of Ch14 was useless for most of the SE of England. Often from a high ground position, it's difficult to find any free channels, especially during weekdays. I doubt there is a single channel we can choose that'll suit everyone. It would be nice to have the CT channel on the Mid (EU) block full stop, but unless there is absolutely no propagation running, it's a noisy band, often until late in the evenings - it's a mix of AM, FM and SSB too ![]() Certainly we can have a Mids FM channel as a back-up - perhaps try a few out and let us know how you get on, then we can look to promote one as a preferred CT channel It may transpire that we have a number of preferred/fallback CT channels, so areas where 34 is a no-go, CT'ers have an alternative. |

Yeah that's a good idea, we could have regional channels, south east, south west, midlands, east anglia etc. or you could do it by county, but will have a bash round the mids and see what comes up. Cheers Joseph |

I usually give Ch.34 a go on CEPT as well as on UK. Anyone listening to the band around here must be sick of hearing my regular plea of "Any Charlie Tango station on three four? Hello? Anyone? Anyone at all?" . . As it is simply a case of clicking onto Mids(CEPT) then back to UK I'd have thought it makes sense to have the same channel rather than, say, 16 on Mids and 34 on UK. |

i agree with Steve Mr Cherokee! i have 2 main rigs i use, my little Midland 38 i use for ukfm and my Cobra 148 gtl dx Mk1 for midband (cept) and hi band (t5), but as the snake is an untouched model i cant recieve 34uk so i find myself calling for CTer's on 34 mid on the cobra! gets a bit annoying sometimes when i am swapping from one to the other because all i ever hear on 34uk is combine harvester drivers?!?!! just out of interest do we have a frequency on usb or lsb that Cter's use/monitor for other charlie tango members?....it's crazy but i have been using 27.580 usb as my regular ct frequency just because 2ct4040 is a regular on there and so far he is the only CT member i have managed to have a QSO with who can hear me???

Can only see it being on the 40 Mid/Cept fm or 40 UK fm Shane for the designated CT channel,as the people who run CT have to promote the use of the 80 legal channel's,because as you know we are not "supposed" to use sidebands from 26.965~27.99125,and it wouldn't be very fair for the folk who only have an 80 or even 40 channel radio

Let's kick-off the Mid block fallback channel idea with Ch34 then (27.345Mhz FM) and see how it goes I'll monitor it myself when possible from the home QTH and perhaps we'll run a future net there when conditions are favourable. |

Sounds like a good idea will give me a chance to power up the team me-4 and hopefully get a contact. What about regional channels, as you said it isn't always possible to find an empty channel everywhere. Cheers Joseph |
