I know I should this but for some reason the brain has gone numb right I have my old RM KLV 200/V amp and it say on ssb input 1to 20 watts max now my new SS3900EL is putting out 25watts SSB will this over drive my amp and is there a way to control the output(I have no vary watt switch) I am sure if my old brain remembers I was told you just turn the mike gain down to not over drive it when on SSB is this true most apprciated for any help forgetfull brainless Nubster thanks I blame subtance abuse when I was young why I cant remember its one of these

My ss3900 only puts out 20w on ssb and its fine on my kl400....... but if yours is doing 25w then turning down the mic gain will help. |

You could always turn back the 'ALC' control inside the radio its a small variable resistor on the main circuit board, just take note of where it is now, and turn it down slightly, This will lower the actual power output on SSB only and it doesnt affect the microphone gain. Mark |

Cheers Mark but I've only had the radio a week, brand new and it still has its warrenty securaty sticker on it so I would have to wait a bit to do that

I never go above stage 3 on my amp (around 150w ssb) as 100w is plenty when prop is good.And by doing this i hope to prolong the life of the amp (i know this to be true as i have a 20yr old amp in my shack that ive had from new).
