Hey all I need to reduce the power on ssb of my tristar 747 so two questions. 1. How can I tell the output power of my radio using a power meter for example do I need to use a dummy load? 2. Because of the dead key issue do I need to use a constant pitch tone? Sorry if this is a bit hard to follow, basically I need to reduce my radio from 15-20w pep to a maximum of 12w, what I'm asking is how do I go about it? I've a power meter and a dummy load |

Oh I love your suits. It must have been a bitch to get a 68 Extra Fat and a 12 Dwarf. Give me a diablo sandwich, a Dr. Pepper, and make it quick, I'm in a god-damn hurry. What we're dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law. My other phone is a C.B [imgw=400]http://farm1.static.flickr.com/67/178232089_ca797937ee.jpg[/imgw] | |

Hi Stuart Yes a dummy load is important with the power meter. Yes a good firm whistle into the mic is necessary on SSB. Just adjust RV4 - ALC (located at the back of the board) to 12 watts on the meter. Not the most perfect of test procedures, but it gets the job done! Some technical info on this link: PTBM121 click parts 1 & 2. Best wishes Dave Edited by Radio Pixie, Wednesday, 21. September 2011, 22:25.

Alternatively, I've found that holding the PTT down and putting the mic next to another CB on RX with the squelch wide open (i.e. with loud 'White Noise' coming out of the speaker) generates close to maximum modulation and is a steadier sound source than whistling. If you don't have a dummy load you can do it into an aerial but (a) you'll be transmitting doh! Obviously! and (b) it isn't quite as accurate. But for your purposes, if you haven't a dummy load available, it'd do. |

Back in the day if working on someones CB, I use to use a door bell push connected to a small jack in the CW key socket. I did have keys, but it was just something I had put in the tool kit as it did the job. |

So essentially I could use the continuity beep on a multimeter? |
