Welcome to the official Charlie Tango DX Group CB And Amateur Radio Forum. You are visiting the UK's biggest and most active CB Radio club.. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Charlie Tango DX is a group dedicated to Hobby Radio Users in all forms, whether CB, Amateur, PMR446, Scanning and Short Wave Listening.
We are a very active and friendly group that welcomes anyone from anywhere in the world who has an interest in Radio, regardless of their level of experience, their equipment, their location, or their radio preference. We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

If you join Charlie Tango you'll be able to access member-only sections, and use member-only features such as customizing your profile, sending personal messages, voting in polls, viewing modifications and more.

Oh my Lord. . . DON'T let that old argument start again. It wasn't really any harder in 1984, nor 1974, nor 1964, it was just DIFFERENT.

What we have now, that we should celebrate, is the fact that newcomers to Amateur radio can get on air, and on HF, after only passing the First of Three Exams (albeit with a 10w power limitation).

The combined Foundation, Intermediate and Full is still an in-depth training and testing program, as was the C&G process. Nowadays we have to demonstrate certain practical skills, including building a simple curcuit then a Project, SWRing an aerial, Tuning a VFO, that were never part of the C&G but, on the benefit side, we DON'T have to demonstrate a proficiency in Morse. Earlier C&G Exams had a lot of focus on Valve technology which is barely mentioned in modern tests, but we now have questions on transistors (which were a sci-fi dream in the early 60s).

So it has indeed changed, but don't believe the "we 'ad it tough when I were a lad. Not like thee kids now, it were proper 'ard then " old school, they do not give Full Licences away on cornflakes packages now.

This isn't a Rant ;) . I just want to nip any potential "us n them" arguments before they start. All "G" type licences, early "M0" and modern "M0" deserve equal credit for sitting, and passing, their exams

Good luck its very enjoyable, I am having a great time doing it and if your tutor is any thing like ours some great interesting stories. My exam was going to be on the 15th August but due to an rsgb moratorium its been delayed to 1st September. :@

The main thing is to have fun and enjoy it, with plenty of :RTFM:

The only thing that really changed is since the multi questions is that you needed a higher % correct to pass than in the old days.
And as some have said some of the older calls did'nt have to take an exam at all as Steve says the world and technology have changed.
Good Luck on the Foundation :thumb:

Read the manual and take your time reading the questions on the exam and most of all enjoy your self and never think I wont ask a question because your tutors want you to pass as much as you do.
