Wow, there was a lot of local clubs in the area. I seem to remember a friend of mine, Steve (Fiddler) mentioning the Echo Lima club years and years ago. Mike, don't know if you remember hearing Gordon (Blue Spot) on the bands. He was from Carlisle, but stayed in his caravan in Southerness during the summer. That was round about the time I was last on the radio. About the mid 90's I guess. Got the 34 net on with my Antron, not a peep. I was planning on getting up a hill in the lakes, but I woke up to a flat tyre. Heard you calling yesterday. Much better lift, but I was still searching for my SWR meter Nap |

I was never a member of the Solway Pirates, but I used to speak to a lot of guys who were. I remember the pre-L day Lockerbie club, Cheddar County Breakers. And post L day club I was in, Annandale and esdale Breakers. In the mid 90s I met the last remaining member of Lima Oscar in Lockerbie. It was a club of one. And in the late 90s I met the last remaining member of the Robbie Burns (Romeo Bravo) club in Dumfries. What ever happened to the Southerness eyeball? How long did it keep going for? |

Jack 43CT006 CBer in Lockerbie and Dumfries in Scotland - 1981 to 1999. Now in Australia. | |

Hi Stephen thanks for the reply and yes 4 watts can get you some distance .back in the 1980s. when the skip was running I spoke to many cb'er up in north east England .I spoke to your qth wooler in northumberland many times.I will have to dig out my qsl cards and let you know who and when.I also spoke to alnwick morpeth ashington morpeth blyth whitley bay consett durham washington crook west auckland peterlee amble rothbury and many more places if the conditions are good Stephen I should be able to make it to the north east of england even with a wet bit of string dangling outside yes I agree there are many people who use far too much power! on the cb radio these days it just spoils it for most because the little stations dont get heard but thats life? .like you stephen I love the old cb sets I had everthing from audioline 340 and the 341 along with a uniden 200/ had a uniden 300 homebase! amstrads yorks and more loved all of them but loved my uniden 300 was sad to sell it all those years ago!.well must go will keep myears open for you in the summer cheers Martin 73s.
