Whilst swl on 40m yesterday i heard a group of gents from wales having a chat and moan about life (like we all do from time to time). After a few mins i heard a qsk ,with his call m3###.He was promptly told "we dont except qsk`s" and i guess he left them to it.
Moments later a gent piped up complaining about their attitude and was told "to go away we dont need the police involved".Now i know this in minor stuff compaired to what you sometimes hear on 11m especially uk fm ch19,but their comments seemed quite nasty rather than the usual rudeness ive got used to on 11m.

Im not amateur bashing and it hasnt put me off doing my foundation but i had hoped for a little better............Tell me its a one off and the rest of the operators are great guys and girls

The majority of hams welcome new blood but there are always a few who
are sticklers for protocol, particularly in a fast-paced ragchew net.

Good luck for your foundation license and hope to speak when you get your ticket.

There are twerps, trolls, wombats, berks, 'Richard-heads', fools, and self-inflated-gits on ALL Bands, from Top Band to Microwave, from PMR to PKT.

They are NOT the majority nor the mainstream but, strangely, some people / some stations seem to run into the less-savory types more often than others. I seem to rarely find these rude and ignorant stations on the Ham Bands, but another amateur I know says he hits them all too regularly. Generally, in my own experience, being polite and following protocol (and that's on amateur bands, FB or CB) goes quite a way to avoiding conflict. Sure, sometimes there are rude people running a 'private' net ("We don't accept QSK calls") and there's nothing you can do about them except walk away and remember "Illegitimi non carborundum" ;)

It does happen from time to time Sam...I myself have been on the end of it before on 40 meters, was told "Break" was not the way to call in and therefore my call of Break would not be acknowledged, perhaps if they had left a second or two gap between overs instead of a nano second then i may have been able to to have said "QSK M**** calling" so my call of "break" had to be said at lightening speed in-between overs for them to hear me ^o)
Made a note of their call signs and vowed never qso them again....why would i want to qso them again anyway??? i wouldn't i have no time for rude people ......anyway the moral of the story is IGNORE THEM.... :D and don't let a handful of Ignoramuses put you off exploring new avenues on the radio...You go for the license matePosted Image

It does happen but you now know this. It also may have been a coincidence that the station that was given the cold shoulder was a Foundation holder but alas that may not be the case :(

I've never heard it myself but have been told too many times now that some Radio Amateurs who did it the 'hard' way, RAE and Morse do have issues with the new system.

I amazed that my G1, Class B, call doesn't get more stick on HF but we do OK.

Don't go thinking this is a new problem. Only last night I was reading some old Radio Communications from the early 70's and there is letter after letter of G3/G4's having a go at G6/G8's for not doing the Morse test and enjoying 'proper' radio.

Tune away, simple. Have a go at the Foundation and enjoy.

Just like on the CB bands the Ham bands have decent operators and not so decent operators.

Dont be put of by this as Most Hams are decent people, although as in all walks of life there are a few who spoil it.

of cretins,,, like the 11 year old that was on the folkstone repeater who was
picked on so bad that he cryed his eyes out and his parents took his radio gear away
in disgust i wil never go on there or any other repeater unless realy have to ?
and to top it off they hate CB,ers but i have heard them on ssb 27.555 dx ing
you might know one goes by the handle of ginger beard,,,
i have heard him slaggin of cb on 2m then a few days later useing ssb on 11m
they get every ware,,, so just carry on and enjoy your hobby and ignore
the numptys,,, :D

Happen's up here in Edinburgh aswell, heard a couple of amateur guy's one morning giving it the big "yeah you know the cb user's and what they're like = I Q ZERO's", only trouble was they just happened to be talking on one of the ukfm cb channel's lol,and I for one won't go on to talk to them while they are on channel in the morning's because of this statement.

After reading the above quote again that I posted (it was late)I would just like to point out that out of the regular's on this particular channel it was only one individual who had this point of view and it is unfair to tar all the user's with one numpty who will remain anonymous as the rest of the user's are fine, sorry for any confusion.

Its actually quite common if you listen for long enough. I don't make thousands of QSOs a week but if I'm sat infront of the PC at home I'm generally flicking through 40m and 11m.

There have been lots of occasions where people will be quite rude to people trying to join in or just generally slagging people off. "what does he expect with just 10w, he should stay on cb" etc etc.

I think people need to be more careful what they say on air as some people have bigger ears than others :D

Also other forums, those really friendly ones seem to have quite a few who look down on anyone who isnt as good as them.

If you've done the RAE etc everyone is inferior, if you're just a full license holder, everyone else is inferior etc etc.

What makes me annoyed now is that anyone who is a black box operator shouldn't hold their license and should just "go on cb". I think others know what forum I'm on about and I've expressed my views on there too.

It makes me want to stick with my 50w and just get a flipping huge beam and work the world on QRP just to annoy them.

I try and keep away from nets as much as possible, old timers do not like break or qsk,
try just the callsign or wait for a net control to call for new joiners that is much better.
good luck doing F/L course and exam.

there is an attitude problem with some g3/gm3 hams they dont think were worthy of sharing the air with them.i found that quite a lot when i was a mm3.i've now got my intermediate and maybe one day i'll do my advanced but till then i wont be put off by anybody.like cb there are good operators and bad ones but having a full license does not make you any better than somebody starting out in the hobby

GOMs

Grumpy Old Man syndrome!!!

Dont worry about it, ham radio has always had an inferiority complex. There are many more amateurs who are the total opposite.

There's nothing like a 19DS/87B !!!
