This isn't about legalising freeband though is it? It is about legalising SSB and AM on a set of frequencies which are already legal across most of europe.

As far as I know 27.555 is illegal in most places.

As for 12w PEP SSB being higher than that allowed on amateur bands to those with a foundation licence, there is nothing stopping those amateurs buying a new type approved CB and using it on the CB band.

Being able to use SSB and AM legally one band may persuade some people to leave 27.555 and use legal channels instead.

Nothing like chasing a flying bacon butty :thumb:

Getting back on topic I agree with afew of the comments above and the one that really does ring true is the goverment arent trying to legalize 11m just add a legal frequencey into the radio spectrum......which of coarse will be on THIER terms

I can see a big flop on its way just look at the 40ch Cept allocation that never took off so why should SSB Cept be any different

The only think that will persuade people off 555 is the ever increasing number of idiots on there. What I am hoping is said idiots will go to the new legal frequencies (if it ever comes to pass) and leave the Internationally recognised Freeband Frequencies to the Freebanders.

As Paul has said, I can see a BIG catch 22 as well on the horizon ........... we are all asuming it will be channel for channel the same as the Mid band is now. But as our Government doesnt want us 'The people' to really have AM/SSB there being pressured into it by the E.U, then i can see them opting for a frequency that ends in '2' or '1.5' etc just to be awkward, such as channel 40 will be 27.402 mhz with no allowance to 'Shift' the frequency using KC shifts or such, Just like the way they came up with the UK 40 .

The President George will be legal too 40 ch am,fm,ssb version approved already has been for years and meets the requirements of the new standard.
Seem's strange that they would allow a radio to be legal in the U.K that is capable of 30 watt's :thumb:

:) Mark I am new on here but might I respectfully disagree I don't believe that a standard with non corrisponding Channels will be implimented here for the following reasons :Firstly its the cept so all the channels will have to be corresponding in order to create a standard that can be used in each country.:secondly I think it would still need to be compatible with the old cept so that peole can continue to use compliant equiptment under the terms of the old cept. Thirdly people in other countries have campained for 4 watts on am as the previously agreed etsi standard(which the uk regulator decided not to adopt) had only 1 watt on am and 4w pep ssb. Both the old cept standard and the recent etsi use the same channels for compatability.

;) All thats happening here for a number of countries not least France and Germany is that higher power will be allowed on am and ssb which is very easy to impliment, if a new standard with different frequencies was to be created it would require expenditure on the part of authority which is why I feel this wont be the case

Anyway Its looking increasingly like it will be implimented here its just a question of waiting for official conformation from the regulator :thumb:

Well whatever happens lets just hope it works out well for all, (now the downer) but I bet it wont, apart from the Cr*p the govenment will do to us it wont take long for the total Di*Kheads to get there hands on these so called new radios when and if they ever appear we all thought the the idiots on the Muppets would leave us alone when it all got legalise back in the day, now half of them (well all around my way ) are running Yaesu, Kenwoods, or the mandartory Cobra 148 and with high power also, so they can go nearly every where even though they only seem to use them on the Muppet channels which is waste, its shame the idiots found out about the radios mentioned lets hope they dont get intrested when the new ones finaly appear the other thing aswell if we are going to be in line with rest of Europe radio are we gonna get the Euro Wally on radio :P

sorry if I sounded like Mr Depressed Downer :D

Maybe we should have a Sweepstake:
- People could BUY a month or a week that they think Sideband will become Legal in the UK on Mid Block or UK40. Then when it eventually does happen ( or if ) the holder of the correct month or week wins the pot.

I'll bid £1 for "November 2036" :D . . . Trouble is, by then, the £200 Prize Pot will probably just about buy a pint of beer, or half a litre of petrol.
