Since the wiring for my rig and associate add ons in my car is to say a bit Heath Robinson on a visit to Halfords for another reason and seeing it was thundering and lightning outside I spent a bit of time just browsing and found in the car audio section some great heavy duty wiring for audio amps (they must draw some current seeing the size of some of the cables) so I brought a kit to wire up directly to the battery properly, I brought one of these....(Details here)

and a couple of these........

Connector block

So todays job is to fit it all in!!! I will take pictures as I go and show the finished job later. Maybe I can have a RM K L 500 amp now ???? :wack:

Good find. Been using the audio kits over here for years now.
I also buy some big wire from this seller on eBay, reasonable prices and quick shipping.
Not sure if it would be economical for you boys on that side of the pond, but you can have a look anyway.

No fuse on the black cable? If not that needs adding if it's being used on anything you value. I recently brought 5 meters of 50 amp Black & Red, plus two fuse cases & about 5 or 10 mixed (5 to 30 amp) fuses for about £10 to £15 off ebay.

OK Deed done ! Not as bad as I thought it might be. Thanks for the tip about fusing the earth as well. I've done that too!

Sorting out the live wire from the battery, Luckily I had a grommet that I could just make a small hole through in the inner wing to get the cable through.

Laying out the cable, placing fuse holder

Connecting the leads to the new connector block

Connector Block

Making sure the wires are long enough for the radios to go where I want them

Cable in engine bay routed correctly and fuse screw down to inner wing (checking first the bonnet closes without touching!)

Job done !!

Very nice Dave, job well done. Something i need to do, is try and find a way to wire my rig, straight to the battery, but can't find any way to get the wires into the engine bay, as not a lot of room in there, Renault Kangoo :(

Around here we use welding cable. Cheaper than the car stereo stuff, and for the amount of power being used, welding cable works real good...

I use 2/0 and 4/0 welding cable in my Suburban to power my Davemade Amps...Right now I'm only running about 4000w's at 14v's, but with the way I have everything wired I could run up to 10,000w's and not have to worry the wiring part...

No fuse's used...hard to find fuses rated more than 300amps, so when running the electrical more attention has to be made so that nothing is rubbing and could cause shorts...Cable ran from the alternators to the back battery bank is ran threw pvc pipe right up to the battery cabinet.
