Just had confirmation one of my associates has decided for end of 2011 the Alfa Tango and other contests on 11m he did not want his amp to be used as to coin his words "works pooh" and so he has ordered and have seen the sheet a special made amp for the event. It Needs: 500w SSB Amp as a Driver for the Amplifier Then it hits: 48 x 2879 Pills which are modified with another 12 x 2879 Pills to release AM/FM 4800-5000w and SSB (with SSB Bias Add on 25$) 12,000 watts He is now ordering the power station for it, and holy cow needs something like almost 900 amps to make it work so the maker told him..... Now wait to see any initial build photos, takes around 2 months to be made and then needs shipping here..... |

Well, we've all heard of the old "Coffee Warmer" sets, so that must be the "Full Sunday-Roast Dinner Cooker". That sort of power would make your DV27 go floppy in double-quick time. With TX power like that on Tap, he can most assuredly say, "If I can hear it, I can work it".

I wouldn't want to be too near the antenna when he keys up! I've said before that I know of someone with a 7k SSB amp but I've never seen or heard it. The most I have heard was some yank with a permit to use some oomph. He was using a rather large tower and i think he said "yup, wheeeeooooeo (whistling noise) yup, thats 2.3 give or take" |

hi simon. i take it with 60 2879 in the unit that $25 WONT BE BIASED!!! it sounds like just a cap/switch and relay added!!! to bias 48 pill amp for ssb (b bias) (xforce) bias is the best i have seen from american amp builders that are avaliable would be about $400+!!!! just hope we dont hear that amp when conditions are a bit better as he will be destroying other peoples contacts !!! never mind the band splatter!!!! he would also have to make sure he really knows what he is doing ? rf burns are not nice! plus with that amount of power you need everything perfect to run that amount! if anything is wrong you will only key it once!! and 60 pills at £40+ each is expensive!!! 73s. |

Nope . . . No way is that legal, no how, no chance. Unless maybe the owner has it registered as an industrial sized microwave cooker for Instant Meals for 200 People or something. |

The last news from the man is the amp is almost done. 22kg and the size is not so big he told me. It has multiple fans, also has heatsinks around the bottom and some sort of cooling system? I have been off as sick, i wait now see if he sends me any photos but by his sms he is well excited. |

One question WHY? Massive amounts of power to work another station also with a massive amount of power, thats logical. Embassies, the military etc have been doing for years. But having many times the power that someone else uses, why? A station regardless of power level is limited by one thing the other stations ability to get back& make it a QSO, as it needs two stations to talk to each other for it to be a QSO & not a broadcast. |

Agree with the man above. Unless he's using an uber beam etc then it is kinda pointless and then if he is using a massive beam he wont need all that power. Ho hum, he wants to be heard and break through those pileups! |

I think it is a bit like climbing Everest . . . . because he can. Not for any particular purpose or to achieve any particular aim, just 'because'
