I have seen a dipole with gamma match in online stores, but have spotted a cheaper one (without gamma match) on fleabay cheap dipole

Has anyone used these with success ?

The plan is to use it horizontal when static mobile - would it be worth adding a reflector to make a 2-element beam ?

I used one vertical for quite a few months and it worked well indeed - contacts all around Europe with it.

They do need some strengthening for a permanent installation though and make a Ugly Balun (RF Choke) at the connection point if you're using Coax (unbalanced) to connect to a balanced dipole antenna (keeps RF out of the braid).

Will work well horizontally, but I've no experience of using one as part of a 2 element beam.

Sirio make a version of this called the SD27 and it works like stink. I had one horizontal and it worked all over the place and worked them well. I am a little in between on this version as cannot be the same build as the original. But, worked all over the place on it. Its like having a 1 element 18ft antenna horizontal in the air. Gamma Match can be a bit fiddly and did not like strong rain and storms. Was not the most waterproof the one i had here and have heard the same from Denmark also.

Manual enclosed for the original.. And seems maybe Sirio will be onto this also. Its a copy, immitation so maybe they will be on the case........Posted Image
