Hi
I have noticed when transmitting under 10w with a Good SWR my MFJ noise canceler lights up inside which surely cant be right, does anyone know why its doing it & how can it be stopped, I have the T/R control wired to a mini din & still makes no difference. I have had a look at the manual which only refers to this light as a diode/fuse, what could be used as a spare just in case?

Thanks
Pete

It sounds like a bit of 'RF' getting in there Pete, the lamp/fuse is there to blow if the rf is to high, its to protect the amplifier circuits from being destroyed if you accidently connect it around the wrong way and to blow if the static energy level around the antenna is to high.

Also Most HF radios have a lamp fuse as well, so if your using your hf radio and the rx suddenly goes quiet it could be the lamp fuse.

As has been said its RF going back into it. I made my SWR meter glow very brightly a few weeks back - it wasnt plugged in AT ALL - and that was because a cable hadnt been reinserted properly.

Thanks to both of you for the replys now Ive been told what the problem is, I have checked all connections fpr good Joints or any shorts, SWR is low with ATU can only use inside cold water pipe for Earth (Rig & Noise canceler) Strange you mention the light on your SWR meter mine sometimes goes brighter on TX  RF must be bad somewhere can I do anything to sort it?

Pete, a liberal sprinkling of ' ferrite rings ' on power leads, coax leads shpuld help out.

Obviously using the cold water systen as a earth isnt the best thing to do, but if thats all youve got then theres not much you can do about that, but you could try some ferrite rings on the actual lead youve got running to the water pipe.

And you could also try using a ' Counterpoise ', the counterpoise should really help.

Its all a bit of 'trial and error' as to what is the cure, but try the ferrite rings and counterpoise and you should cure the problem.
