Is there any where to find out whats happening (& where,) when it comes to 48 meter broadcasters? I know The British DX Club covers this as someone told me else where. I use to swap my Anoraks UK weekly magazines for the BDXC magazine. I have googled, but not found anything. All I want is something aimed at HF hobby broadcasters. Other mediums like MW & technical stuff is an advantage. I found lots of stuff about VHF, including circuit diagrams. But nothing about 48. Yet reading an online edition of BDXC's mag, I know they exist..I even heard a couple this morning. Any suggestions? |

Yes. I found a couple yesterday & from the free down load of a BDXC mag I can see that some operate around 4MHz as well as 48 meters. But it would be good to find something like the old Anoraks UK magazine online. So I can see what is happening where & who is around etc. |

Thanks for that. How accurate is the information given in the murphys link relation to what is happening in Europe? Also & just out of curiosity. There was a 1980's 48 meter station from Northamptonshire called either Falcon or Kestrel any connection? And do you know is the Dave Scott at FRS, the Dave Scott who use to run Radio Apollo? As I recently bumped into a Midlands broadcasting acquaintance who suggested he was not keen on admitting to any involvement in illegal broadcasting & had gone back to Hospital Radio & trying to get freelance legal radio work & was suggesting that he did "International Broadcasting" in the 80's I have found Alpha Lima http://www.alfalima.net/index.php?sid=691f11f7411feedfd1c1b93625bf91dd They seem to be reasonable & also a few bits & pieces but, as of yet nothing that comes close to Anoraks UK news letter. |

The first half of the 80's were good for radio despite the changing laws. There were still plenty of MW stations operating. And I know of at least 3 LW transmitters that were experimenting at the time. There were also plenty of non commercial VHF band 2 stations all over the country, as well as a massive amount of commercial unlicenced stations & 48 meters was probably more active than I had ever known it. I well remember 48 meter stations like, Spectrum, Caroline SW, Atlanta, Atlantis SW, who also used MW & VHF. Westside, Apollo, UK radio, Eric, BBMS which had I believe some connection to London's Radio Jackie. Radio 49 (Steve West rings a bell with this one & I think it was connected to a North Kent station.) Oh & Weekend Music Radio who used an address in Cambridge, but broadcast from Scotland. Places like the Midlands, London & Liverpool were alive with stations, there was even a Birmingham based TV station for a few months. |
