This as really got me miffed, from 1mhz to 9mhz is totally wiped out with some sort of interference. Giving a good 9+ on the meter, this as been going on for weeks and started suddenly... :headbang:

Heard on both my receivers..

JRC NRD-345 + Global 2000 + 30ft wire in loft
DX-394b + Hf discone in loft

I think I am correct in thinking that both radios are mains. So that leaves two sources mains borne or via the antennas. An obvious statement I know, but it's a starting point & with interference thats what you need.
As both antennas are in the same location looking at your post, both the above are possible.
Do you have a portable battery operated receiver? If so & especially if it's a mw (AM) receiver use that, as noise shows up best on AM & as it will be small & portable you can then go hunting with a directional antenna that fits into corners.
My guess having spent lots of time avoiding work, sorry re learning something about this hobby, is that it's one of those network over the mains things.

Perhaps the neighbours have a device causing it and when they goto bed they switch it off.

Could be an elecric boiler on a timer perhaps.

If your near to shops it may be something in one of those and when they close the interference goes?

Keep tabs (without stalking) what time the noise stops and when the neighbours have lights out or when shops close.

good luck

hi mate, this could be a few things...ok over the last couple a years ive had a bit of interference and some from very odd things too lol,,,firstly sw is very intolerant of electricity,so any close power cables to either radio, antenna,or coax may result in some sort of problem, and most electric problems occur in the day time, another problem is computer wireless routers, they can be big probs, and of course theres broadband over power lines, this could be a massive problem too,,,the most odd thing that wiped out my radio was a very old microwave!!,,every day around the same time my radio would get 30db of rubbish,,and eventually we found it was the micro wave!!,,hope this helps mate,
atb,wayne.

Thanks for the feedback, there is going to be some big changes in the shack over the coming weeks so I may get to bottom of this. Though something tells me its coming from next door, I will try a receiver in a different room and some random wire out side in the coming days..

PLT is the acronym for " PowerLine Telecommunications", or the generic name for all types of "data-over-mains-devices" (PowerLine Adaptors / PLA).

Have a look at the RSGB (Radio Society of Great Britain) general document about it, at Link.

Would have been nice to get to the bottom of the interference. The fact that it suddenly appeared suggests man-made, i.e. new plasma or PLT.
Glad you have all but eradicated it by moving antenna - out of interest, what HF discone you putting up?

Something keeps telling its a router or something next door, I wish I could get to bottom of it...

The HF discone is from Moonraker and is 0.05>2000 MHz, the only thing is that its rather abit on the big side...

Good neighbours? Ask them if you can investigate, purely on the basis you are curious as to what it was, nothing more. Then call OFCOM :D
If the discone is anything like the dualband VHF/UHF + wideband receive antenna I bought from Moonraker, it'll be the doggy's doo-daa's on receive!
My only problem with it, is it picks up stations in Northern France I really don't want to hear!

Good neighbours no, they hate my antennas and have already reported me once to the local council. So a nice young lady paid me a visit one day about it, she told me all was fine and not to worry, although this could change in a few days when the antron 99 goes up.
As for the discone the only thing putting me off is the legs vibrating loose, Ive been told to glue them. But I like to swap and change antennas around so dont want to go down that road.

Put a bit of PFT tape (like plumbers use) on the thread before connecting, then see if you can wrap some self amalgamating tape round the connection. The PFT tape will tighten the connection a bit, and the latter will weatherproof it with added strength.
