Last time we spoke on air Simon you were trying the TP5 and indeed you did sound great on air and you gave a great signal into NE England. Hope to catch you on air this weekend at some point, I'll monitor UK38 and other frequencies. The video camera will be handy too so hopefully get some footage of the TP5 in action again. ![]() Nice service from Thunderpole too, you really can not grumble at 24 hour international shipping! cheers. |

So guys never to be one to sit on the ass i decided to make some changes to the TP5 or the 1/2 Skipmaster 2010 and they seem to work. So here are the new swr settings and banding with 4 watts FM 25.900 1.6 26.500 1.2 27.000 1.0 27.500 1.0 28.000 1.1 28.500 1.2 29.000 1.2 And these tests were at 4watts from the radio that was on trial. I have asked at the manufacturer and they seem to agree as tested the antenna in December with this idea but not yet continued but we both seem to have come to the same conclusion so the tests will continue and will report more on them as the time goes by. But seems to make the difference so far. S1.5 up on the standard antenna |

5/5 Thailand with the modded idea of the antenna. Local RX TX is up almost 2S Points so am told, and these people did not have a clue what I did. MORE TESTS needed as it makes the antenna around 4.2m and not 5.5m so can have some adverse things maybe....... |

So will make a small video later. Local the antenna modified is up. Also spoke to Australia with 100w and KPO so that works also. And spoke with 2x Gents in Scotland so that was a pass also. Seems then that Sigma Eurocomm will be emailed tomorrow with the results and seems to be ok. Now we need to see if there tests will allow the antenna to pass and be done and dusted too

hi simon. i notice that the mod makes the antenna smaller now! iam guessing that you havent fiddled with the coil! so there for i would think that its the top section you have played around with?? something equivalent to a fire up top section? or something like that? it does seem rather small now though!! 73s. |

Hi Richy. Well i was interested in a 5/8 of the same antenna and was that something that could be done. I emailed Sigma and we got into a dialogue that they tested it one time in December and then shelved it. So, I loaned a fire up and set about having a play with it. And the swr settings are here, the height shrunk to below 5m and the performance is really very interesting. I have tested it with some people today and also found the outcome excellent. 5/9+20 in Lebanon with the KPO and 100w (video on you tube) 5/5 into Australia Darwin 5/5 into Thailand So it does indeed work. Locally signals are higher, white noise now lower. I will be speaking to Sigma this week, also emailed them and Team as they will import the antenna here. We spoke on Friday and the tests were made to see if the antenna would handle it A) and how the swr would be and could it work. So, now need wait a fire up that they make in Birmingham and make some more tests. My TP5 original only makes around 120 channels SWR and with the fire up now makes over 400 so seems that works well enough. S1.5 is the difference on the standard and the fire up. Photos were made and now need more time and to feel better to continue it, and also to loan another fire up. 73s S |

used the skipmaster today on the Buxton hills (peak district 450m above sea level) for the 32 DX net. was a piece of cake to put together, put it on a 4m pole and attached to my truck. Seemed to work well. Spoke to Mike5 and Trailermaker and a CT member (can't remember who unfortunately) started calling from the location (on 32ukfm) and got a sudden pile up from people all over the place.... was a bit of a nightmare for a moment. Will have to get to buxton hills again if the mrs will let me out. |

just tell her chris! like "woman iam going out" dont give her an option! lol hi simon. so does this mean then that sigma euro com will make AN antenna like this in the future? or at least give the customer an option of 2 antennas? like two different ones? although saying that i think i asked in one of my other posts if the fireup section could be added and i thourght the conclusion was no!!? the reason i asked before is because to me that would be the next logical step to mod the antenna just like the a99 ! 73s. |

Sincerely and the most honest answer Richy is i do not know. Paul @ Sigma will make his own tests and then we will know. In the meantime a full 1/4 antenna ordered and a 7ft firestik and let the tests begin after this snow has gone. -15c here tonight |

I popped into Sigma today, met Paul (really nice guy) and picked up a skipmaster. Had a quick chat with him and he showed me one of the prototype original Skipmasters and a the possible "fire up" style section, all very interesting stuff.. Have to say the antenna is really well made, can't wait to get it setup. |

Just had a bit of a think regarding the addition of a fire up style section to a TP5 / Skipmaster.. If they are a 1/2 wave to start with then removing the top glass section and whip makes them approx 1/4 wave... Adding a 5/8 wave fire up the the remaining 1/4 wave (2/8ths) gives you a 7/8 wave antenna in total.. Is this correct?? Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but shouldn't a 7/8 (even top loaded) out perform the standard 1/2 wave... Only thing I did notice is the original Firestick Fireup had a resonant freq of 32.700Mhz so I guess the bottom two sections of the original antenna are a little more than a 1/4 wave in length.. |
