Someone who's gone out and bought, or at least tried, a piece of equipment has every right to form an opinion - these first-hand opinions are valid and help us all decide what to buy.

What we see too often is extremely vocal opinions on kit by people who have never even tried the item - their comments are based upon what a bloke said on Ch19 one night and the like. Especially with the Internet, these comments get around and before long a good product can be destroyed and future innovation tempered.

It's good to see that on this site we're seeing real kit getting used and reviewed.

Bravo Gary ......much truth in that statement for sure.

Looks Interesting, made in Birmingham from the people that make the venom antenna (i was told) and sure as anything will be available here under some name or another. Would i try it? Yes think so but against the Gain Master think it will loose but i would try one.

Looks to be different, saying that maybe would not publish the results as am getting far too many PMs on youtube from this side of the water from people who want to know all the results and not buy stuff. People who leech stuff, or try and get all they can without making investments into the stuff kill the hobby. Not directed at anyone here, but always people want, post, want, post, discuss and when it comes to cash time it ends. Guess certain other forums will discuss it to death and when it comes to it, people will say the wrong colour antenna for the sky or some other BS. Good to see that Thunderpole invested into the UK by making it there, let us hope more will buy than simply bla bla bla bla
Yes looks a very interesting A99 alternative for sure. Nice to see a British company investing money. Yes Simon I am getting many PMs and E-mails from people about the GMaster. It's all good if they then spend their own cash on the products and try them for themselves, but just a waste of time if all they want to do is discuss it. Some decent new antennas are well over due in my eyes.

In the last few days have had in the youtube box total of 134 personal messages asking me for detailed accounts of tests i have made and which antennas i have tested it against and PLEASE EMAIL ME NOW all the results etc etc. Most waste my breath as if you are not prepared to invest then do not comment. I even added now a few words on my page about it.

Some of the gems

"simon, can you test this against a sirio 827 and send me the results for coverage, swr and how it works "

SURE, send me the money for the 827 and will have a go

" you put pictures but where is the detailed side by side anaylsis against other antennas, how is it on 10m and when will you do these things"

Tested it against the Imax 2000, Antron 99, Venom 1/2, President Black Pirate, Pan Super 16 5/8 (almost same as sirio 2016)

Mindless muppets, if all anyone can do is gas then not worth answering. Spend your cash and then you see how it is. Too many leaches scroating kit and making mindless comments. We all remember the hundreds of comments about the Jackson II on how ALL THE CB men in UK had comments and money burning holes in there pockets and when it was released they went back down there holes and never spent a penny. Why? Big men on a keyboard and pathetic when needed to spend the reddies.

I like my gain master, its already provided me new countries on 11m and 10m. It has low noise, strong build and each person who heard me told me was booming..

"test the antenna against verticals and not people with yagi antennas"

cq cq people only with vertical antennas i will call now soon of course! MUPPET who asked me.....

costa rica, philippines one man had a siggie 4 and the other a 1/2, australia, thailand ALL ON VERTICALS so what is the issue??

More spineless speak from people who will not invest money into the hobby.

Good for Thunderpole, they deserve the praise and i would have one of these antennas but the shipping costs would kill it off for me and will not write to them a begging email and leach one off them for the magazine. Invest in the hobby and then it gets stronger and stronger. If all people do is write endless dribble and not key the mike it dies and then we hear again those famous muppet statements

"there aint much kit on sale now, and not anyone on the channels anymore"

You're quite right Simon, there are a heck of a lot of "Armchair Experts" on the fringes of the radio community . . .Very fast on the mouth and keyboard and very slow on the wallet and credit card.

I find reviews like yours are of great value to me when i am thinking of investing in something. I'd have been extremely dubious about having one of the latest batch of "Oriental Hand-held 2/70" radios but for your video. Now I am more than happy with the Wouxon. So, Thank You for the service you're providing. :)

But when we hear of people arguing with your findings or opinion, or 'demanding' additional tests and comparisons, it either makes me laugh or weep. In a way it is a bit like running the Charlie Tango site: some people think "the site" / "your reviews" are a Service that they're entitled to, and they make demands or expect things as if we're all highly paid and funded by the Government, or the Manufacturers or something.

Personal reviews are a useful tool to any buyer. But, at the end of the day, anyone has got to just make up their own mind and say, "Right. I'll have one." or "Nope, I'll stick with my A99/827/SilverRod". I suppose the next stage will be someone buying a Gain Master and then telling you that you owe them £100 because they cannot receive Bali on it, or can't get a contact into Japan from their QTH at the bottom of a Scottish valley on their knackered old Fidelity 3000.

couldnt agree with you more gary...(Sone who's gone out and bought, or at least tried, a piece of equipment has every right to form an opinion - these first-hand opinions are valid and help us all decide what to buy.) if it wasnt for these people i dare say a lot of people would still be scratching their heads has to what to buy. my self included.

I think the likes of( simon and dave and your self) do a grand job on their reviews
and long may they continue to do so.

has for simons reviews wow would take some beating, and being known world wide.
i guess people take it for granted that simon is only to happy to reply to all the requests
for info on said products......

but there you go only my 2 pence worth.....

I have been in touch with Andy from Thunderpole and they are made in Birmingham from the same place that makes the excellent Venom antenna. I will now wait shipping costs as the antenna is OUT OF STOCK as all first series are sold. They wait more antennas now in the next week or so

Maybe even telephone them Lee??.......I look forward to the review Simon, I think there struggling to get supplies from the manufacturer. It's good of companies to put money into products. CB Radio has been stuck in "The Wasteland of Time" for too long. Hopefully with better weather I'll have a go with a TP5 too, mine was ordered about 3 weeks ago.........now where's that MFJ analizer been put?........First thoughts not on par with the SGM for peformance, but a nice UK built update on the A99. I do like the way it joins together. God two new antennas in as many months. Things are looking up!.

I'm glad the TP5 is looking good - I'd anticipate it being a reliable performer, on a par with a Silver Rod, but something that'll go up in the air and stay there for years through all weathers.

I do not believe the gain they suggest but I think will work well. My thoughts are that the others from this Brummie place work well. Have worked over 200 countries on either metal 1/2 or 5/8 from the same place and the way they seem to be selling means they are doing something right.
BUT, what impresses me is that they still buy UK made stuff and for this alone they need to be recommended for

Kudos to Simon and Dave for buying, testing, and reporting their findings, I enjoy watching your respective videos, as I'm sure many people do.

Now for my none paid for armchair rant: I'm a little disappointed that Thunderpole fall into the trap of making ridiculous claims about antenna gain, 9.9db, 9.9db what, i? d? wet string or fairies? it's meaningless, and a ridiculous number. For an antenna to have gain, it must be gain over something, and a 1/2λ vertical antenna does not have 9.9dbi or 9.9dbd gain.

It being maid of fibreglass should make it a bit more durable than the cheaper silver rods, I look forward to your reviews chaps.

They're between a rock and a hard place - silly figure as it is, I suppose they couldn't claim a gain less than the one claimed for the A99, as that's the market they'll be aiming at with the Thunderpole 5.

Still waiting for mine ,but I will give it an In Depth review as soon as I can. No SGM beater I'm sure. Yes 9.9DB.....I think as Gary says they have to try and compare it with the "Fiction" A99 claims. I'm sure it will be every bit as good as an A99 and UK built.......so a bonus!
